June marks the official beginning of summer so let’s have a

YELLOW AND BLUE BARBECUE

Our June adoption is for a “crazy crew” of ABHs aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington CVN73.

The ABHs (Aviation Boatswain’s Mate – Handling) are the yellow shirts and blue shirts on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier.

They launch and recover aircraft and work extremely long hours covering day and night flights.  Things get pretty hot working around “the birds” and this crew needs a bit of summertime fun to lift their spirits!  Bulk boxes filled with the ingredients for a fun summer picnic or barbecue would be great for this group!

Based in Yokosuka, Japan, they are currently on patrol.  The ABH crew consisting of 165 males and 22 females.

They are requesting:

Food

beef jerkey, slim jims

energy/protein bars, breakfast bars, Pop Tarts, mini boxes of cereal, granola bars

dried fruit, canned fruit (easy open tops)

canned soup, cup of soup, tuna (in pouch or pop top can)

crackers, rice krispy treats, sunflower seeds, chips, pretzels, bean dip, cheese dip

cookies (any kind would be great) Jolly Ranchers, Smarties, Sweet Tarts, hard candy, gum

seasoning salt, hot sauce

Gatorade type mix for water bottles as well as the water bottles with straps

First Aid / Personal Care

aloe vera burn gel, lip balm, moisturizing/cleansing eye drops, saline nasal spray, throat drops

vaseline blister care, flexible & cloth bandages, surgical masks, bug repellent, pocket tissues

no-water aspirins, vitamins, cotton swabs, nail clippers, eye glass wipes, Avon Skin So Soft

"hoo-ahh" brand unscented pre-moistened field towels, waterless antibacterial soap, sunscreen

strong flashlight & batteries, air freshener, tablet laundry detergent, perfume, cologne

brushes, combs, foot powder, disposable razors, non aerosol shaving cream, deodorant

Fashion

cooling neck bands, good quality sunglasses, bandanas, black boot socks, padded insoles

Fun

deck of cards, DVDs, Nerf balls, and a big YES to pillowcases.

I know that their list is long but these sailors really take a beating up there on the flight deck so let's send them some fun with a

YELLOW AND BLUE BARBECUE

Please mail packages between June 23rd and June 26th.  Thank you!

Put me down for one box..

I'm in! I'll see how much help I can get then let you know how many boxes.

WHOOP WHOOP I love me some Japan based kids ------- they dont get all the things we here in the USA get , so Im going to try to brainstorm some *new things* also for them ----like the M&M pretzels :)   Twilk21 how totally cool we love it when we hit on a mom's personal child ( we get insider info that way)  ha ha ha

PARTY HARDY LADIES !!!

Ohhhhhh this will be fun ---Im already thinking thinking yellow and blue

what is no water aspirans ? and Hooahh scented ? ha ha ha Im not too sure Hoo-ahh would smell good --I vision the smell of sand and sweat !!   ha ha

I've been to walgreens.com and drugstore.com and cannot find "no water" aspirin.  There's the liquid filled pain helpers, there's kid's tylenol, but for the life of me cannot figure out what that is.  LAURA, see if you contact person can give more information on that one.  Know how hot and sweaty they get, which would aggrevate a headache for sure.

Here is the quick dissolve aspirin crystals.  The Bayer site indicated that it can be purchased at Walgreens, Harmons, Amazon.com and Drugstore.com, hope this helps!

Thanks!

I just checked Amazon and unfortunately they're pricey.

UNSCENTED, Heaven help us if they were scented!

These are sold at Gander Mountain,  Amazon.com and AAFES (Army, Airforce Exchange)

It is amazing that the pillowcases were "sold out" in 12 hours!  Unbelievable!  Thank you everyone.

Please let me know if the bulk boxes that you are shipping contain food items or first aid/personal care items.  I just want to make sure that both categories are being covered.

Please remember - Ship the food items separately from the first aid/personal care items.  We wouldn't want the granola bars to smell and taste like soap!

Laura.... I will be doing two boxes.. One food and One first aid/personal care items..

I'm going to have to ship early (just by a few days) As my daughter Haylie and I leave on vacation June 24th and wont return until mid July ----so most likely the Saturday before I think that would be the 22nd ??
