June marks the official beginning of summer so let’s have a

YELLOW AND BLUE BARBECUE

Our June adoption is for a “crazy crew” of ABHs aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington CVN73.

The ABHs (Aviation Boatswain’s Mate – Handling) are the yellow shirts and blue shirts on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier.

They launch and recover aircraft and work extremely long hours covering day and night flights.  Things get pretty hot working around “the birds” and this crew needs a bit of summertime fun to lift their spirits!  Bulk boxes filled with the ingredients for a fun summer picnic or barbecue would be great for this group!

Based in Yokosuka, Japan, they are currently on patrol.  The ABH crew consisting of 165 males and 22 females.

They are requesting:

Food

beef jerkey, slim jims

energy/protein bars, breakfast bars, Pop Tarts, mini boxes of cereal, granola bars

dried fruit, canned fruit (easy open tops)

canned soup, cup of soup, tuna (in pouch or pop top can)

crackers, rice krispy treats, sunflower seeds, chips, pretzels, bean dip, cheese dip

cookies (any kind would be great) Jolly Ranchers, Smarties, Sweet Tarts, hard candy, gum

seasoning salt, hot sauce

Gatorade type mix for water bottles as well as the water bottles with straps

First Aid / Personal Care

aloe vera burn gel, lip balm, moisturizing/cleansing eye drops, saline nasal spray, throat drops

vaseline blister care, flexible & cloth bandages, surgical masks, bug repellent, pocket tissues

no-water aspirins, vitamins, cotton swabs, nail clippers, eye glass wipes, Avon Skin So Soft

"hoo-ahh" brand unscented pre-moistened field towels, waterless antibacterial soap, sunscreen

strong flashlight & batteries, air freshener, tablet laundry detergent, perfume, cologne

brushes, combs, foot powder, disposable razors, non aerosol shaving cream, deodorant

Fashion

cooling neck bands, good quality sunglasses, bandanas, black boot socks, padded insoles

Fun

deck of cards, DVDs, Nerf balls, and a big YES to pillowcases.

I know that their list is long but these sailors really take a beating up there on the flight deck so let's send them some fun with a

YELLOW AND BLUE BARBECUE

Please mail packages between June 23rd and June 26th.  Thank you!

Laura;  I have 1 box going.  Sunflower seeds, Slim Jims, and drink mixes.

The June adoption address for the USS George Washington's yellow & blue BBQ has been posted!

This is my first time as mom of the month so if anyone spots an error in my address posting, please shout it out and I will correct it!

THIS IS OUR VALLEY FORGE!

Rations are scarce and morale is down.  The USS George Washington needs your help.  Washington's troops survived the Pennsylvania winter of 1777-1778 because of the help of the Regimental Camp Followers.

The Regimantal Camp Followers at Valley Forge consisted of the families; mothers, wives, and children, who provided necessary support and increased the overall morale.  Once again, George needs our help!

As of now, we have a committment of 12 food boxes = 15.5 sailors per box and we have 6 first aid/personal boxes = 31 sailors per box.

"All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her.” George Washington

@Laura, I can increase my box count. And I talked to a "new mom" on the website yesterday and she has a sailor in this group so she is sending 2 boxes.

Thank you Pat.  I will keep posting counts as we go along.  Hopefully we start picking up some steam soon!

Laura,

I am going to try and rally up my neighbors again.  I should have at least 5 boxes, hopefully more.  I can send snacks and toiletries. I'm behind the curve this month due to family issues, but you're getting me motivated! Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much for your help.

@ Laura, count me in for at least 2 boxes.  Things have been difficult all the way around with 2 physical therapy appts. a week + a doctor's appt each week.  I bet I could write those co-pay checks with my eyes closed.  Oh well.  Our babies come first!!!  I'm just sorry I haven't responded before now.

My boxes will likely be snacks/goodies.  However, I will let you know by the end of the week once I get shopping and packing.  If PT goes well, I will start tomorrow!

You've got me moving!  Keep up the great work.

Please be sure to take care of yourself first.  I don't want you to hurt yourself, physically or financially!

I promise to wear my nice strong sneakers when shopping - no matter what I look like!  And, my hubby agreed -- our 'children' come first ... he upped my spending limit for adoptions.  Well, actually I should give him more credit, he doubled it.  I'm so excited to go shopping, I can hardly stand myself!

Hey, Laura, don't worry.  Moms know how to budget things.  If Moms ran the government we wouldn't be 13+ trillion dollars in debt!!!

New slogan:  "MOLLY FOR PRESIDENT AND DIANE FOR VICE-PRESIDENT"!!!   :)  We can find other moms for cabinet positions later... lol

I also posted the need on MA Navy Moms page.  Hopefully that will generate some response as well.
