I just read your second posting.  Thank you for your input.  I feel totally lost about alot of things. Hopefully they will be cleared up when I see his recruiter on Thursday.

I'm shipping out on the 6th. Looking at this calendar got me to thinking though, when I get to boot camp will I have to wait for everyone else coming in that week / month before boot camp officially starts? It's crazy that they have people arriving almost daily... How do they keep everyone on the same page?

Got you added to the calendar, Toriimarie.  Thank you for your service!  You won't necessarily be waiting for the rest to arrive before forming your division.  My SR left last Tuesday and must have immediately been placed into a div because he is graduating in just 7 1/2 weeks, not the 'normal' 8 1/2 weeks.  You just never know!  :)  Make sure your loved ones know they can come here and share your progress while you are at BC!  Good luck and THANK YOU for serving!
Backpack - According to my son's recruiter, if we meet him at the airport, we can hand him an all black backpack with two shoulder straps and include things like his computer, cell phone, etc.  We stuck in a few changes of clothes as well as his tennis shoes--fewer things to mail later.  I've read on other postings that the 'bag' must be either black or dark blue and doesn't necessarily have to be a backpack so I don't really know what is true.  I'm going to stick with the all black backpack and hope we don't run into any problems.  Some RDC's will allow the newly graduated sailors to bring their cell phones back on base after graduation, but the majority do not so don't plan on it.  If your SR will stay at GL after graduation, there is another option of renting a locker off base where their items can be stashed until they are allowed the privilege of bringing them on base.  These are all things I've read...I don't have personal knowledge of whether they are true or not.

Well that sounds good.  I'm going with him to see his recruiter next Thursday so I will ask him too.  I actually have a lot of questions for him. My son doesnt' ask that ones I want him to when he goes. :.)

Imagine that!
Yes I know. I shouldn't really expect anything different. Guys will be guys no matter how young or old they are.
We never met the recruiter.  We thought we would when we dropped our son off the day before he shipped out, but the recruiter had a doctor's appt with his wife and wasn't there.  Then, we thought we'd see him the day of swearing in, but he'd done his part the day before and someone else drove our son to Des Moines.  I did call and talk to him back in January, but he told me about this website and that's were I've been getting all my questions answered!  Crazy.

That's funny! Well my son thinks his word is the only one I need to hear so I guess I will give it a go.  I have talked to him a couple of times but only when he could not get in touch with my son.

Oh, I think you should go and meet the recruiter.  It was never my intent for my son to leave without us meeting his, but it happened anyway!  His recruiter is moving back into the fleet either late this month or early next month so our son didn't think there was any reason for us to meet face to face.  As they would say...whatever!?!
Yes I know! I am frustrated right now with him. I guess that is the way with alot of the moms. I know he is old enough to make his own decisions but when I learn something useful I want to share it with him but he is not interested.
my son wanted to do it all alone and yes i wanted to bust in there and throw 50 questions at his recriuter but as for his wishes i just laid back and learn from here lol i still have many questions but i bug my son til he tells me lol
