Hi Everyone,
Our 18yo son will be leaving on 7/7 for Great Lakes! Time is going by so fast, He just graduated High School this past Thursday, but this has been his path since he was 15 years old! Curious if anyone else has a child starting bootcamp on 7/8.
Also would love to hear some advice regarding planning the trip for Graduation - how far in advance, etc.!
Thanks -
Debbie

I left info for you on your My Page. As far as planning for PIR, you can't make any firm plans until you receive the form letter with the PIR date. The form letter arrives about 10 days after his arrival at the RTC. You would then want to make your reservations quickly because some places fill up fast. How long you stay for the weekend will depend on where your then Sailor goes for "A" School or training, which depends on his contracted rating (job/specialty). If he stays in GL, then you would want to plan to leave late Sunday or Monday after PIR. If he flies out, then you would want to leave late Saturday or on Sunday. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend when the time comes.
You are very welcome.
HM or MA???
Not sure what the HM or MA means, and I know I saw a section for the abbreviations before and now I can't find it!
HM is Hospital Corpsman and MA is Master at Arms. Those are the only ratings with "A" School in San Antonio--HM at Fort Sam Houston and MA at Lackland AFB.
The Page, What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology), will help you with many of the new terms you will come across.
I saw that your future Sailor has a contract for HM and left info on your My Page on that.
Hi Debbster...my son leaves a week before yours does on 7/1. You should join the group DEP-Leaving for Bootcamp in July There are several Moms with kids leaving the same day as yours. It will help you a lot to connect with a group of Moms who are going through this together.
