Hi everybody,

My son leaves for boot camp in less than 2 weeks and naturally I am a nervous wreck. I have seen some of the videos and read some of the blogs and discussions and it has given me some comfort. I know that all moms and dads each have their own concerns. My main concern is being out of the loop for the 8 weeks that he is away.  This will be his first time away from home. My son is 18, only took a semester in the university close to home and then decided that the Navy was the direction that he wanted to go in. He's extremely ecstatic, albeit a bit anxious. As his mother, I couldn’t be prouder, yet I am still worried and concerned for his well-being. Hopefully, through this mean I can communicate with other moms going through the same situation.

Also..once he leaves keep your phone on you at ALL times ! You will get the scripted "I'm here" phone call when he arrives at bootcamp ! And a few days after that you will get "The box" with his clothes, cell phone he took with him , etc. My Son wore older clothes , shoes and coat and donated them ..I got back a belt, jeans and stinky socks with his cell phone inside them ! The best pair of stinky socks I ever got :) They do get to call once in a while from bootcamp and you never know when so be prepared and always have your phone with you everywhere ..Welcome to the crazy ride of being a Navy Mom , it is SO worth it ! My Son is in A School now and so we get to text and talk now :)
Oh I plan to carry it with me. I know I will be anxiously waiting for his calls. I miss him already and he hasn't left yet. I've been babying him so much!!
I am proud of my son.. But I can't wait for him to be done with boot camp and go on to his A and C schools.
Thank you!! Never thought I would be a Navy mom but here I am!!

My son hasn't even left yet and I am a mess. But I know this is for the best! My son also chose this path. I know it is a good one.  I know God will look after him but it still scares me.. He is and always will be my baby!! Best of luck to you and your daughter as well.

Hi Blitz I know how you feel, my son is 19 and I finally got a call from him yesterday we talked for 30 minutes I was so excited I forgot all the questions I wanted to ask him. Lol I miss my baby but ill see him again soon.
