My daughter leaves for Great Lakes on 11/17. The anticipation is killing her, she was ready to go a month ago, me...not so much.
So proud of her but sad for the empty nest.

Brace yourself for the wild ride. Your daughter is going to amaze you.

Thank you for the encouragement.
She amazes me as is...looking forward to more!

my son just got his call yesterday! heading to Michigan on 11/19 so they should be there at the same time. I'm happy as well but planning to fall apart once he's on his way!

Congrats! As the days get closer the struggle becomes a little greater, but so does the excitement for her and I. We will get through this!

Thank you!

My son leaves for Great Lakes on December 15th.  I am having a very hard time with this.  It will be our first Christmas without him at home.  We are taking a family vacation over Thanksgiving break with all three of my boys and my husband.  So proud of him but not wanting to let go.

I totally understand! my son was supposed to leave in May but got an early call when a job became available. Missing the holidays and his 19th birthday on 12/31....counting down and trying to get lost in his excitement rather than wallow in my mixed emotions. thankful for this site! enjoy that vacation!

middlemom, expect an earlier ship date due to the Navy Recruiting Holiday Stand-down, which is usually about a week before Christmas to just after New Year’s Day. There are about 3 weeks in December and into the first week of January when the RTC does not process in new recruits. See http://www.navycs.com/blogs/2011/10/14/the-voelker-rule. My expectation is that December ship dates will be 12/01/2015 through 12/10/2015. Recruits don't ship on Fridays.

My son leaves tomorrow November 5th!!!!

Wow! prayers your way! today will probably be the shortest day of your life.

Stay strong mom! Enjoy the day and make it about the two of you.

My son leaves the 17th of this month. I cant believe his leaving our home. Hard pill to swallow.
