Hi, y'all! I'm new here, up early to get ready to take our son back to his college town where he signed up for Navy. He's got three years of college under his belt, but decided he wants to get out and actually work in the "real world" and make some $$ to pay off his loans, then finish a degree with Uncle Sam's help!  So, here we go.  It's a long way from our Southern home to Great Lakes, MI, but I am excited he is taking this step, while a little concerned that he will be able to be all"SIR, YES SIR!" since he loves to argue and debate :). Looking forward to meeting other moms!

My son is also on Ship 11 div 001 - we have only received the form letter with a small note - no personal letters or calls yet. VickiMiMom has set up a forum for all Ship 11 div 001. Good to know there are more of us out there.

i know the saying is no news is good news.... but i have to admit im waiting for a letter so bad its driving me crazy...just to get a idea on whats going on her thoughts about being in BC.... It makes me think there pushing them so hard, that they haven't had time to sit down and write a letter yet..... and yes it is nice knowing there are more of us out there in the same waiting games...thank you

neilsmom. you are so right......I didnt hear from my son other then the I made it here call unitl about 3 weeks before he was to graduate. I have heard alot of people talking about how they will call in 3 weeks after arriving, that was not the case for me.

Ladies, I just received my first personal letter from my son today. This is his 4th week in BC and I was going crazy thinking something was wrong. I did find out he was on a different ship, but his DIV was correct. He's actually on SHIP 11/DIV 361. When I called the recruiting office this morning, they would only tell me that as long as his DIV is correct, that is all I needed for sending letters and for his PIR on 11/05/10

I still have not received a phone call, so you can only imagine how painful this has been. He sounded sad and homesick. He has a large division. He said his RDC is really tough. He said it is tough getting up at 0400, hitting the showers with 80 ohter guys. Says the water just hits your body and you're back out and going to PT, then marching 5-10 miles. The food was okay, so I was happy to hear it wasn't horrid. He is happy he has passed his tests. He knows as hard as it is, that he can see a difference in himself. He looked forward to receiving letters as he said "to keep me going". I could not tell when he sent the letter, so I am hoping that he will get all of our letters this week. Another mom told me that this Div had mail problems, so I hope this will get rectified. Anyway, I can't wait to hear his voice, but his letter and just seeing his writing, made me so happy and grateful! Hang in there all of you and don't panic if you don't hear anything when you think you should or others do before you.

My son has the same problems with the shower thing, he told me before he left that would be the hardest adjustment for him. Even though I have not received a letter letter from him I know what you mean by just seeing his hand writing.

My son left on Sept 20, 2010. The hardest part was sitting there waiting on him to swear in and not being able to talk to him. And then finally seeing him swear in and then just WAITING on him to load the bus. I cried the whole time walking out and watching him getting on that bus. The first call I got from him was at midnight saying that he was there and he had to go. Then the BOX came......and still NO letters or call or anything. Finally, on Sat. Oct 9 I got a call from him and we talked for about 25 minutes. I also received a letter from him on Friday Oct 8. I was so excited to hear his voice. He is 21 but he will always be my baby. He said that he was doing good and that he had to have ALL of his wisdom teeth pulled and that was pretty rough. But he said other than that he was doing good. He will graduate on Nov 12th and I can't wait to go and see him. This is really hard for me because he has always been at home all his life. I know that it is time to "let go" but he is a long ways away from home. I write him every single day and mail him a letter everyday. I don't want him to go a day without hearing from me. But I could hear a difference in his voice when he called saturday. I just keep telling myself that November isn't that far away before I can see him again.

Leslie! You are so right..mine left 9/21 and although he is 24 ..he's my babe. On a positive note..for YOU..your PIR is 11/12...mine is 11/19 so mine is ONE whole week longer. I have NOT heard from him since the 15 second call that he made it to BC and the PIR letter with the 4 small lines that came with 'the box'. I miss him so much! I think he's been calling his gf when he is able to make calls (grrrrr..). Anyhow..had to respond to you because regardless of their age, etc..they are our boys/girls/kids/spouses and we miss them. I still can't go in my son's room and I still sleep with his BOX next to my bed...can't even wash the dirty clothes..yet. So glad you have hear from you boy. What great kids..huh? Have a great day!

Does anyone know what the attire is for the parents to wear to the PIR? Is it dressy or casual?

Thanks for your advice. I am in PA so I too am used to cold. Can't wait until 11/12,,,,
