Hi, y'all! I'm new here, up early to get ready to take our son back to his college town where he signed up for Navy. He's got three years of college under his belt, but decided he wants to get out and actually work in the "real world" and make some $$ to pay off his loans, then finish a degree with Uncle Sam's help!  So, here we go.  It's a long way from our Southern home to Great Lakes, MI, but I am excited he is taking this step, while a little concerned that he will be able to be all"SIR, YES SIR!" since he loves to argue and debate :). Looking forward to meeting other moms!

You spoke of snags with the PIR date. A friend of mine has a son in the Navy. He was sick for two days & his PIR was pushed out one week. I think I'm driving to Chicago. It's 12 hours but I don't want to fool with the airlines.
Wish I had that option but I live in Southern California and it probably take too long to get there.
Jeffsmom, it is that kind of thing that is making me hesitate to jump on a good airfare (about $150 roundtrip from Atlanta, which is about 4 hrs from here). Just want to be more sure of the date. I personally would drive to PIR b/c I love traveling and seeing new areas, but my husband dislikes long road trips and also has only about 6 days of vacation left for the year, so we are stuck with flying :(
I just checked Southwest Airlines and they do not charge you for rescheduling your flight. (A lot of the restricted fares charge $75 to reschedule). Not quite as cheap as Air Tran but by the time I add in luggage fees and insurance it's about the same. Looks like I will be booking with Southwest. Then if PIR changes I can change the travel dates (will have to pay the difference if it is more expensive). I actually checked the travel time from where I live (was thinking of driving lol) but it is a 30 hour drive one way.
I agree VikkiMiMom, I really want that form letter to come so I can start planning. I have three letters waiting to mail (forced myself not to write today so he doesn't get too many all at once) and will be really glad with the info gets here. I feel like I am waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Hang in there. It will come. So sorry you are still in limbo.
congrat nikkimom i am still waiting on my date so i can plan my trip. CONGRATS TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLAN YOUR TRIP.
Gosh, Nana Z you sound just like me. I want to know that date so I can plan my trip too. I feel like a fish out of water cause I can't plan yet.
all we can do right now is wait, but i hope it comes soon because my oldest son is tired of me calling him and crying on the phone. lol
VikkiMiMom, That may be a temporary division. I read on here that someone else was given a ship 11 and division 2 and they were told it was a PIR temporary division and that they would get a different division number when the division was filled. Probably a number beginning with 370. I'm sure that JessicaB-Sailor Mom would know for sure.
well i guess you and I wiil have to sit and wait!! But i hope not for too long.(smile) hopefuly we will hear something real soon.
Oh, me too.
