For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Leaving for boot camp January 2015
Our son will be leaving for boot camp in January 2015. Are there other moms out there who's son or daughter will be leaving for BC then?

I have a son who is leaving for boot camp in January 2015. He leaves Jan. 7. I, like many of the moms on this site, feel like I am on an emotional roller coaster. I am so proud of my son and his decision, but it will be so hard to see him go and not be able to talk to him as much as I would like. I get teary eyed pretty much every time I think about it, but I think that this site will really help me out. There is so much helpful information here! I look forward to connecting with others who have sons/daughters leaving in January who might be there with my son.

My son is scheduled to leave January 2nd. At least we get Christmas and New Years together as a family. I'm excited for him to go and so is he. He's 23 and just not sure what he wants to do with his life. We all feel that this is the best path for him to take right now. Because he doesn't know what he wants to do, he's signed for EPact. I've heard good and bad things about the Pact program, but he liked the sound of it and knows that he'll get trained in a number of jobs. I've read things on this site that he shouldn't believe his recruiter, but it was the counselor at MEPS that explained this program to him and it's what he wants to do. I'm trying to have faith that this is the best program for him. I'm glad that if he decides to get out in 4 years, he'll be able to return to college. I'm hoping that after 4 years in the navy and being 27, he'll know what he wants to do with his life. His dad joined at 23 and it was the best thing for him, so we're hoping the same for our son. Anyone else out there leaving on the 2nd?

My son will be leaving Jan 6 and I too have been trying to determine all of the things he will need prior to leaving. It sounds like they won't be able to have anything with them until after BC and while in school they are limited. I found a post here that had a list of things to do prior to leaving and it was very helpful.

My son is now scheduled to leave January 5th to go to Tampa and then leaves January 6th for Chicago. He was originally scheduled to leave January 2nd but the recruiter told us there are black out dates so his date was changed to the 5th. Does anyone know when PIR will be or when we will know the date? I need to make plane reservations and hate to wait until the last minute and pay a higher price.

From what I am getting from information on this site, we won't know this information until we get the form letter once they are already at BC (about 10 days after they get there).

Gatorfan, we will not know until after they get to BC as adpsmom said, when they send us the form letter. In counting it down and looking at the calendar, it will probably be mid-March (either 13th or 20th) but again, no certainty in that until they're there and they send us that letter.

Our son's recruiter just called and asked him if he would be interested in leaving early. Our son told him no. Um? Heck no!!!!!! lol.

Tell that recruiter you need more mom time and that over rules!!!

Our son handled it on his own. Simply said, "Nope, not interested. Sorry." YAY!!!
