My son leaves Sept 10, and I am in the same boat. I literally feel I am going to have an emotional break down. I just had major surgery 4wks ago still recovering and my husband left to work out of state for 3 mnths 2wks ago. I don't know how I'm going to handle this, my son is only 17..... let's stay in touch to support each other and keep ourselves afloat.

Hi Ladies...

My son left on Aug. 24th.  I am doing ok....I try to remind myself:

He's not in jail, He's not a drug dealer, and I haven't lost him for ever (I have a friend who lost her son in a drowning accident)  This is how I keep things in perspective.  Yes, I wish I could talk to him every day but I can in 8 weeks!!  I will take 8 weeks compared to never being able to see or talk to him again.  This may sound harsh but I have to tell myself this so it doesn't seem so bad.

That's what works for me.  I also tell myself....he is going to visit a lot of places I will never get to see.  He will probably meet his wife along the way.....he will have a Job and not be unemployed.  There are so many good things that will come out of this for our children......they will be ok and so will we...we just need to stick together.....oh yeah...this site helps me sooooo very much.  We can all relate to each other.

Hang in there!!!  We can do this together!!!

Thank you so much! You totally put it all in perspective. I'm going to take that great advice and follow it everyday.

Oh...I wanted to let you know your sons can keep a wallet.

I put some cash in there $15, calling card, family pics, band aides (that was a suggestion I read on here)  inspirational quotes and who we wanted to invite to graduation.  3 or 4 names.

Just wanted to let you know so if you wanted to get that ready for them you could.

That is awesome, and good to know....thank you! I appreciate you sharing with us.
I just found this site and it is such a blessing to me. Tessina75 it sounds like you have a lot more going on besides your son. Please know I will be glad to support you in any way I can.
Farrah I know you are right. My heart is just sad. I do not cry in front of him because he had a lot of fear himself. And I know he is sad too.
Thanks Ladies. I have a feeling this site is gonna become very important to me.
I was having a hard time too. My daughter left Sept 15. What is helping me is thinking my sad or negative thoughts are thoughts she is having herself.... so I turn them into positive thoughts "you can do this, pray, you are strong" then I feel I am telepathically sending them to her and she is getting them while there. It may sound silly but I'm sticking with the positive vibes!!!
My son left 9-15 and I have sobbed. Yesterday I laid on his bed and cried. But today I woke up with the thought that everyday that passes is one day closer to seeing him. I cannot wait to get my form letter so I can make travel plans. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers!
Thank you HeatherD, that is a great way to see it and will make coping that much easier :)

My son left for BC on 9/16.  I stayed strong until that last phone call came in at 1:30 am saying that he was sending "the box".  It was then that I realized my husband and I had raised a good son and he was taking the next step albeit surrounded by a whole new family.  It's just hard for this mom not to have her "baby" around.

My only son is boarding the plane in 20 minutes to IL...for weeks cried about all the lasts...birthday, picking pumpkins, dinners, etc...today started on the firsts...first night he wasn't here, first morning, first dinner...hopefully the crying stops at some point but right now feeling very empty and alone :(
