Hi jeanne! My daughter is in boot camp as we speak. She left on 10/6/2010 (two weeks ago) and her PIR date is 12/3/10. She's a GM (Gunners Mate) and will stay in Great Lakes for A-School for about 6 months as well! PS - I sent you a friend request so you can get to my page, I have pictures of Meaghan there!
Yeah! Maybe her and Ashleigh will get to know each other. Thanks for the reply.
I will check out your page. Is it on here or facebook?
Jeanne
My son is leaving October 26th, 2010. He is rank AMS and will be going to ASchool in Pensacola, Florida, after bootcamp. I am very emotional over him leaving.
Hello Everyone, I too have been so blessed with this group. It has helped me get through this week. I see there is so many that are headed to Pensacola, does anyone have a sailor going to San Diego? That is where Sean is headed for STG.
Thanks - - I guess our sons will be in school together !!!!! How exciting - - great to meet you and plz. let's stay in contact. Best of luck to you and your son!!!!
stewfam - What you are experiencing is very very normal. It will get worse. For me, the day my daughter actually left I experienced a sense of calm and wan't nearly as weepy as I had been for the two weeks prior. The only two times I got just a little emotional at all that last day was when she swore in, and that last hug before she boarded the plane. I'll keep you in my thoughts and hope that you experience that same sense of calm on 10/26. HUGS to you and your Depper!
Hi Stewfam, It is so nice to see you here. I was hoping you would show up. We are all getting kind of stressed but everyone seems to help everyone so we are kind of ok. My son will also be in Pensacola as a CTR. He just got a call from his recruiter and we need to have him at the recruiters office at 10:00 Sunday morning. Oh, goodness, it is too real. Please thank your son for his service and if there is anything we can do for you, it will be a pleasure. Kathy
Thank your son for his service too, please!!! And again, I am so happy to have found this website - - today I just had an incredibly hard day dealing w/his departure. Reading some of the inspiring stories really helped put some of my fears at bay.
I am sure we will be in contact again through this incredible journey!!
Lori,

Awww, I bet Adam is happy that you are Ashley are getting close. It will be so nice for the two of you to be able to spend time together.

It's almost like our children are doing the nesting that we did when we were pregnant with them, isn't it?

Betsy
Lori - I'm so happy for you :) It's so much easier for you son that you and Ashley actually like each other and get along. Sounds like she might be like the daughter that you never had!
Lori, It sounds like you had a great time. I am glad you and Ashley are growing closer. Adam sounds like a wonderful young man and it is true about how responsible our kids seem to be now. Brandon and I were ironing today and I think he has the basics down. One of his friends and his parents took him out to dinner tonight. Poor Brandon has finally got to a good weight and everyone is stuffing him with food. lol. Last night his friends threw a fish fry for him.

I hope you hear from the recruiter soon. I can't believe my son is leaving at 10:00 in the morning Sunday. It only takes 3 hours to get to San Antonio and then what. Just sit in the hotel room? This is going to be so hard and my son refuses to take his cell phone. He has decided how this leaving will play out and he will not change his mind. I can't help but laugh because he is probably thinking if he takes his cell phone I will be calling or texting him constantly. lol. He is right.

Have a nice evening. Kathy
Susan,
Put down the book. I started it and am also waiting. There is so much the kids are going to deal with, and it IS difficult to face as a mother. The kids have chosen this path and we need to be strong for them, and we can fall apart here with each other. Our kids are strong and special to have chosen this path. It's not an easy one...for them or for us. And actually I think our part is harder because it is so hard to wait and worry.

You need to look at this as one more sacrifice...which it is...we are sacrificing the control we have always had over our children's lives and futures. But THEY have taken the reins, and as hard as it may be, we need to let them make their way in the world without us for a while.

Know that we are here for you to talk to and that we care... HUGS coming right at you!!!
Nancy
