Absolutely steal the "letter from the pet" idea!! It was passed to our group of N4M's by a prior N4M that did it for her son....so it's been stolen before! Our pet told my daughter that he felt as if he'd been put on a diet because he was no longer getting the same quota of table scraps since she had left, so he has resourted to pan-handling at our local convenience store but that wasn't working out so well for him. I had a lot of fun making the sign, taking the picture, writing the letter, etc. And I can't wait to hear from her how she liked it LOL! Steal away my friend, steal away!!
Thanks, I just friended you, so I can't wait to see it.

Love the story to go with it. LOL

Susan,

Oh geez, I just had a RAOC reading that. That is so so sweet. I just can't even imagine how she is dealing with this as his little sister. ((hugs))

My middle daughter's birthday is Nov. 1. (the one moving to HI). Adam is very close to her and he bought her a Guitar Hero game last week, (whatever the newest one is) and he is giving her that tomorrow. He is also giving both of my girls his HDtv, since they are in an apartment and don't have one for their living room. He bought it himself and I am just in awe about how generous he is becoming.

Enjoy your day with Drew. ((hugs))

Hello everyone! My name is Angela and my son, Tyler, leaves for bootcamp on Tuesday, the 26th. It's going to be a rough time for all of us and I'm hoping that this site offers some MUCH NEEDED support to all of us. And that we can support one another! I've read the messages below and Kimcarl, I have to tell you that I was doing the same thing. I realized that while my countdown was difficult for me and I was feeling such anxiety over this that I could NOT even imagine what Tyler was feeling! I have seen some of it too!
Congratulations to you all and to your sons/daughters! It is a very honorable thing they have done and I'm not sure at their age I could have ever done it! They leave our boys and come back men and I have to believe with all my heart that they are in great hands! They will be looked over and cared for and I'm sure will be under much more strict eyes and hands than they would have ever allowed by us as their parent!
God bless them all. God bless us all!
Hi Angela,
It's nice to meet you!! My son Ian is also leaving on Tuesday, flying out on Wednesday, so maybe they will arrive at around the same time.. I am ok here and everywhere else, but apparently I can't talk to Ian. He lives with his dad and I was talking to him this morning and kept choking up. I want to be strong for him.
I agree, I don't think I could have done this at his age. All of these kids are so special and so are their moms. It's a great group here and we are pretty good at getting answers too. :-) Either from each other, or the other moms whose kids are ahead of ours.Glad you joined us!!
Nancy
i was going to make my reservation but since Ashleigh said they may graduate on the 10th instead of the 17th, I'm wondering if I should just wait. Do any of you know any more about graduation dates?
Jeanne
Welcome, Tysmom, We look forward to sharing this exciting but sometimes stressful journey with you. I am also very proud of these young people that have volunteered to serve in our military. There are a wonderful bunch of moms here and I am so glad I found NFM's when Brandon signed up in May. God Bless you and your son. Kathy
Hi labmom 39, thank you so much for coming by and sharing. I wish you and your daughter the best as she continues boot camp. I want you to know we were all reading about your journey when your children left and praying for you. Now that the time is at hand I understand all the feelings you were experiencing when your children left. It is harder than I thought it would be but the support here is great and I am so glad I am here. Please let us know how your daughter is doing and please stop by anytime to share. God Bless You. Kathy
Hi Betsy, good thing that you called the recruiter. Brandon has had to go 3 times this week for something or other. I have a quick question for you. Brandon first wanted to know how long the chain should be for his metal and second if they can bring a rosary. Have you heard anything about this? He was suppose to ask his recruiter but didn't. I think his brain must go in listen mode instead of thinking mode when he goes there. lol. Kathy
Yes, they are allowed small religous medals, prayer cards, and rosaries! I don't think he is permitted to wear the medal so I wouldn't send him off with a big honkin' medallion on a heavy chain like he might wear around his neck. I'm not sure that the chain is permitted at all, maybe someone else can chime in on that piece!

My daughter had a small prayer card (like the size of a playing card) in a protective plastic sleeve with a Saint Nicholas (patron saint of sailors) medal tucked inside and they permitted her to keep the whole thing.
Sunny,

I was looking for a prayer card of St. Michael, (he is the patron saint of service) and they were out of them. I'll have to go back and see if they have St. Nicholas. Thanks for that info.

Sounds like we have a few catholics on here.

Betsy
Betsy - You can try Saint Brendan if they are out of Saint Nicholas! Saint Brendan is for mariners (close), Saint Nicholas of Myra is for Sailors.

I'm sure we have all denominations on here and the Navy is proud and happy to have all of them LOL! My sailor daughters is a much better catholic than I.

Church services at boot camp are non-denominational so everyone is free to practice their own belief/religion :)
