For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Leaving for Bootcamp August 1st or 2nd, 2012
I keep seeing running lists of dates that kids are leaving and I really wanted to connect with other people whose kids are leaving at the same time my son is. So, if you have a child leaving either August 1st or 2nd, post here and let's keep each other up todate on progress.

Mine is also going to Pensacola for A School. Sounds like they won't be there long enough for us to move there!! :)

How much time they have depends on what they are going into. My son has apx 2 years worth of school to get through first and they have said that is all going to be in pensacola. For his sake I hope so. I was a navy wife and we saw some really terrible places during the 6 years we were married.

So my silly story of late... I was donating money to homeward pet (funds food and supplies for shelter animals) and clicked on their adopt a pet link. BIG mistake! Then I searched for basset hounds, and came up with one that has a similar name as my son and decided that it was fate. I've been nearly obsessing about adopting the dog now. I already have one, she's 1/2 Basset 1/2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. My son and my friends think I want a dog to replace him (which isn't possible) or to just have a namesake to call out around the house.I already nicknamed the dog Willa... It's not the best idea to adopt another pet right now, I don't really need 2, but I also know that my doggie has been needing a companion, and this dog is homeless. I know in my heart that making a big decision like adopting a pet shouldn't be on the agenda right now since I'm a little out of sorts with my son leaving. :)

LOL - I took that step 2 years ago when my son was going to school, working and playing football. I was working from hom ethen and found myself sitting in an empty house all day. I told him either I am haivng another kid or we have to get another dog. So another dog it was. And it is a good thing that Charlie has had time to settle into life with me before my son leaves. No, it is not a replacement but sometimes you just need someone or something to occupy your attention and get you over the rough parts.

Dogs are great companions. I got our puppy 5 yrs ago when I got the urge for another baby. (my daughter was 2) I always feel better when I'm blue and pet her and she is always happy to see me.
So about the dog, when my son was just gone for 3 weeks the dog was sad. She scratched on the door of his room to get in and look for him every day for several days. I let her in she sniffed around then left. The first day she was quite surprised when she jumped on his bed and he wasn't there. One day she wouldn't leave the room. Another day she just laid by the door with her nose to the crack.
She was SO happy when he came home. She rubbed her face all over him like a cat! Poor puppy. I feel bad for her. At least we understand what is going on. -

My son Ryan goes to MEPS and swearing in on August 5th, then ships out to GL on August 6th; we are in NJ, but MEPS is in Brooklyn or somewhere around there. As it's getting closer to leave date, I find myself glued to this site trying to get as much info as possible!

So moms, for all of you with deppers leaving on the 2nd it is officially 2 weeks today.... Are you all ready? How are you and your future SR holding up? Do you have any parties or anything special planned?
Me... I am feeling it and cherishing every moment with my son right now. He wants to have a garage sale on Saturday to get some extra money and get rid of some of the junk in his room. I can't believe I am sad that his mess will be gone. I have to laugh at myself sometimes!
He.... Is being very casual about the whole thing. Still stuck on his XBox and his phone watching YouTube videos that have nothing to do with the navy or boot camp even though I have texted him every link to every video I found! Lmao, I don't think he watched any of them! All he says is it is taking too long and he wants to go already lol
He signed up as a BU, it was the only thing that was left! He is going to try out for spec ops because he ultimately wants to be in the AIRR program. I sure hope he gets that chance because I honestly cannot see him being a builder! Lol

My brain is not ready yet. Just a couple more things to do like put stamps and a phone card in his wallet, make sure he knows my phone number and that I'd like him to make sure to get a good photo package.
We are having a small family party on Sunday so people can see him before he leaves. I'm setting up a photo station with sailor hats, moustache's etc. so we can take silly photos for/with him.
Mine is being pretty casual too. He is not in a hurry, but just wants to "chill".
I am keeping myself sane by getting informed and trying to connect with other families whose kids are leaving a similar time. -

My Son finally got me some information on his leaving date. Apparently he has to go to his recruiters office at 1pm and from there the recruiter takes them to NJ for an overnight stay there. Then they leave for bootcamp in the Great Lakes. Is it just my son doesn't really pay attention to what is next or do they just keep them un-informed. Anyway are there any mom's from Montgomery County PA with sons leaving for the 1st bootcamp?

Randi, i can tell you that my son hasn't come out of the recruiters office knowing much of anything that I wanted to know. I didn't feel like they offered up much information that way, they answered his questions, but he is happy with the little info he has. I don't think they yet realize what all they might need to know. I sometimes joke with him about "what would you do without your mommy!"
They did tell me about this website, I asked questions at the recruiter and you can call them to find out a lot too, but I really feel like talking to other moms and searching this website, I've learned a lot more because other moms want to know the things I want to know and someone has been through it before and is willing to help me! I hate to sound like a spokesperson, but Thanks to n4m over the past few months I have officially become more knowledgable than my son on what he should expect leading up to and at boot camp. And I've had the pleasant opportunity to talk with a few very nice moms whose children are leaving when mine is. It's also helped save my sanity because I get the info I need, and someone to talk to who is in my shoes. -

I have learned more from this site than my sons recruiter or anywhere else....I don't know if it is the recruiter or my son!!! I think I have him all set to go..... I'm not ready, but he sure is....
He is leaving from Buffalo NY Aug 1st, then A School in GL for OS..
