With a few tears, lots of smiles and some long hard hugs, my son left for the Lakes today, His flight was at 4:25 PM CA time, So now it is wait and well... Wait..

We got to MEPS this morning at 9:15 AM and then had to hang around, We were able to go in to the room when he took his final oath and allowed to take pictures (He was NOT happy about this, as for the past week, it seems as if he has had a camera in his face more often then not, My other son said we were worse the paparazzi) I saw alot of shell shocked looking kids, and quite a few had no one there for them and I felt bad.. We came strong in numbers to send Jacob, nine of us in all.

His recruiter remembered me and came back over to me and met the rest of the family, Jacob said he didnt get any sleep last night and I told him to make sure he does on the plane as best he can.

After the final Oath he finished paper work and then came out for good byes, that is when I teared up a little bit and I squeezed him hard, and he did the same which was nice.

He kept his cell phone with him, we saw on a few web sites that they can have them with them when they get there and can make the call home from there or text, and he said he would once he lands too if he can. I also sent him with a phone card, it was $10 and gives him 300 minutes, I realize he wont use it all, but better to be safe the sorry.

I am hoping to find local moms to me (I live in Santa Clarita/ Valencia Area - 30 minutes North of Los Angeles

I thought I would feel more sad, But I dont I am happy for him, I am glad he will be growing up and taking charge of his life, He is still thinking about  maybe joining the band, as he can play (Fluently) 10 instruments. I told him it is an option for him. So we will see.

Thank YOu all Again for making me feel so welcomed,

Christina

Christina, my son called me last night around 11:24 EST - he voice was stiff and he was so animated when he and the other recruits headed for the bus to Miami airport....I choked up when he called and barely got out "I lvoe you"  It is wonderful to know they will be all grown up when we go to their PIR whenever it is....I guess our sons will be graduating the same time
