Sometimes we I get our ETs and FCs confused or simply not sure which sailors are what rate so it was suggested that we start a new list so if you don't mind signing in to the the appropriate forum...I won't call your sailor an FC, if you don't call my sailor an ET!!! :-D

My Sailor is an FC, named Nick and he is currently in C school @ Dahlgren

LOL - love that...over 32 degrees. Wow, you PIR was one year ago Marsher - my nephew left for bc on Jan 8th, Nick went in February. It was a fast year...well at least for the moms!!!
My son is just about to graduate A school.(he is an FC) He meets with the detailer on Tues to see where he will have C school.
What are the accomodations like in C school? He is dying to get out of GL, but is it much different anywhere else?
Do they have any choice in where they go? I learn so much on here, it helps me keep up with the conversation
when he calls. I love having him @ GL because he's close to home.
However - for FCs the process can be, and frequently is, different. My son never filled out a dream sheet in GL, nor have I heard of other FCs filling out a dream sheet. Frequently, with FCs, they get a group of them together and they select from available orders based on class-ranking.

Now, if an FC goes to the detailer individually, the process might include the use of a dream sheet; I've just not heard of that yet.
My son said he has not filled out a dream sheet, and hadnt heard of it. He is meeting on Tues, he didnt say if he would be alone or in a group. he has done pretty good in A school, he did get a Best of the Best award and he is graduating about 2 wks early. His friend wasnt given a choice at all, so
he said he thought they were just filling spaces.
When his friend went to the detailer it's possible that there may have only been 1 set of orders available, and in that situation, there would be no choice. But frequently, they get orders for FCs in groups, and when they do, then the Sailors select from what's available based on class-standing. But your son being 2 weeks ahead is a good sign and will help him if he does get to do orders selection in a group process.

Bottom-line, when it comes to getting orders; it all depends on what's available at the time they are ready for them (and that applies for after either A or C school). I remember when my son was done with A-school, there was a huge wait for c-schools; so when he went to the detailer it was only to let the detailer know to put him on the wait-list for orders. So you'll just have to wait and see what your son is able to tell you after he's seen the detailer.
Jimmy got his orders, he is headed to Dahlgren, C school starts on 2/23. 2 friends he made in A school are going there also, so that will be nice. He wants to take his car with
him this time and just drive there, not sure the rules on that. We have A school graduation
tomorrow and then I'm hoping he can come home for the weekend. He said he also got his orders for after C school too. He said he is going to be on a pre commissioned ship, a destroyer. He said he would give me all the details after graduation on Fri. It's as exciting
as PIR. Although I did spend a lot of time crying yesterday, it's been too nice having him
so close to home. We have family in Virginia Beach, which isn't too far I dont think.
Seabee dlt - Orders are so exciting! He must have gotten "display" to have received his ship orders with them. Generally they only receive ship orders when they have a school that is less than six months long.

It is exciting that he will be a 'plank Owner"! When does he report to the ship? I believe VA Beach is about 90 minutes away from Dahlgren. He can drive his car to Dalgren and may want to as there is nothing in the immediate area however Nick is there now and is in indoc and they cannot go move than 50 miles from the base on liberty. So he probably won't be able to head to VA Beach without taking leave. Keep us posted on his details!
Hi Mary, what does "plank owner" mean? C school starts on 2/23, but he hasnt heard yet when he has to report. We just had A school graduation today. It was
beautiful, and they gave everyone who came to see their sailor graduate a certificate. My dtr was so excited about that. How long are the liberties limited?
I'm hoping he'll get to go visit family in VA Beach at some pt. He does plan on
taking his car with him. He said they give him 3 days to get there. How does Nick like it there? Jimmy cant wait to get out of Great Lakes. Well, I should go see what they're doing, when we got home from base we realized our furnace was broken, so I've been sitting in bed under the covers reading until they fix the furnace.
Best of the Best - how nice Seabee dlt! Nick never did a dream sheet at A school either but they will do one at C school.

C school accomodations can vary depending on where they go to school. But when Nick checked into his C school and called the first time, he said COOL at least five times regarding his arrangements. He has no roommate, has a frid, stove, etc. sounds pretty nice there :-D

Generally they have been going for orders recently as a group but it all comes down to what orders are available that day and his ranking in the group. Keep us posted!

Nancy, there hasn't been any "waits" for orders lately, they seem to be consistently available each week but you know how that can change.
Hello Ladies!!!!
My son Evan is a FC2. He finished his C School (after being in GTMO for a year between A and C schools) in the beginning of October and he is now in Yokosuka Japan on the USS Fitzgerald. I spoke with him this morning and it seems like he's really liking it there. He has yet to be out to sea though....and that should be happening soon but he said he couldn't (wasn't allowed to) say when.
Cathilee ---- Yokosuka was our son's birth place and we lived there for five years and LOVED it. Our son is in Dahlgren for school now but is hoping to get orders to JN himself. We support that a 100% so we can go...visit! Have you joined the Japan Moms group - lots of good info there as well.
Our sailor completed both SCC and ENDOC but now gets to join the others in the waiting game "-/
