Super hard leaving him at Meps but his swear in was very neat to see. Love that we got a certificate of the swear in. Already framed and up. How do I know if he is in P-holding or P-Days. It's really hard not knowing what is going on. His recruiter gave me his address already so I have sent a letter everyday so far. Just waiting to get my first letter from him.

So nice you got a certificate.  We did not when our son's was sworn in at Meps in June.  Sounds like you have a great Meps center.  You will not know he is in P-holding or P-days unless you hear from him. Once you get a call or letter/Form letter you will be able to tell where he is in the process.

Mine left same day too.. No address yet and no certificate :(
Only the parents that went to Meps to witness the swearing in got a certificate. Maybe it's a MT Meps thing but yes the were really nice.
My daughter shipped the same day. Waiting for the form letter and address .

My son shipped out on Tuesday, 9/9.  He is Ship 13, Division 352.  I called to obtain his address from his recruiter and they were able to provide me with this info and wrote his twice.  Anyone else in same ship and division? Lisa

RTC requests that you not send mail until you receive his address in the "form letter".

The letters that you sent are likely in limbo because no one in his division has been trained to handle mail.

And posting your email address here is not a good idea.

The letters will eventually reach him I AM CERTAIN.  Thank you for your support!!!

The key word being "eventually" ;)

Eventually is fine with me as long as he gets them. Writing the letters also make me feel better.

CarlaH, You can still write and have them ready to mail when the form letter comes. Wait on the Form Letter before sending any more letters if you have already sent letters.

Reasons to wait on The Form Letter:

1. The PAO at the RTC asks that loved ones wait on the form letter before mailing letters. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/fam_guide.asp.

2. The recruiter does not always give the right address and letters that do not have the correct address may be returned or may be delayed several weeks in getting to your recruit since it will not be a high priority for those in the mail room to look up the correct information.

3. Even if you do have the correct information, your recruit will not receive letters that are mailed before receiving the form letter much quicker, if at all, than letters mailed after receiving the form letter because recruits do not receive mail until they are in their permanent ship and a Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained. The first Mail Call is on day 1-3 or 1-4 DOT.

***If it has been at least 2 calendar weeks since your recruit arrived at the RTC and you don't have the form letter, then yes, it is fine to get the address from the recruiter and send letters. Double-check the info against that at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp or Ship/Division--How it Works.

Although most of the letters that are mailed using the address provided by the recruiter do make it to the recruit at some point (maybe at the first mail call or maybe a few weeks later), some don't get to the recruit for various reasons. Wait on the form letter.
