My Son leaves for Boot Camp on November 7th.   I am beginning to become very nervous.    Are there any groups already started for Mom's with children starting Boot Camp that day?  We live in Northern California..how do we determine when Graduation may be?  He will be going to Pensacola, Fl. to Aviation Training after Graduation.

Thanks!!!!!!

You can join the group dep leaving for boot camp in November. You won't know his exact grad date until he sends you the form letter about a week to ten days after he gets there. It is about 9 weeks from there ship date. Could be more or less. Sorry, I do not know how to send you a link for the dep group. I am sure someone knows and will include it for you. Welcome to Navy for Moms.

I have been reading more around the site.    It appears Graduation will be somewhere the first week of January.  How does that work with his flying to Florida that weekend if the School is closed for the Holidays?

YES, if someone has the leaving for boot camp in November link....I would be so grateful...

Kim

Snickerdoodlemom & other newbies,

Click on MY PAGE tab on the above menu bar. It will take you to your personal page. A number of comments have been left for you. Back in April JessicaB left you a comment with links to the depper group. I just left you a message for a link to a depper group JUST for deppers (your son) - he should join this group and learn stuff before he ships out.

Your personal page is like you landing pad. From there, you can see what groups you have joined, discussions you have participated in, blogs you started.  BTW, your Sign In/Sign Out box (located on the upper right) will always be visible. It shows you if you have private messages or friend requests. If you are getting too many email notifications, simply hit "Stop Following" where ever you see it - that will eliminate notifications whenever there is a comment posted in your groups or in the discussions you have participated in (are participating) in. Later on you can use Setting to set up your default email notifications.

You can view some videos (of all phases of BC) in this group - New Moms Stop Here. The video listed in the PAGES just underneath the member icons.

Best of luck, BQB

My son leaves the same day. Nervous and missing him already.

Hi,

Your son leaves November 7th also?   Where do you live?   I am in Northern California.  He leaves from Sacramento.

Kim

My son leaves next week, October 6th.  I fully understand how you feel.  Go thru the forums and groups. It will definately help you understand more.   Don't quote me, I would say approx 9 weeks.  8 weeks training, but  add 1 week for processing.  They do close down over christmas, so you will have to ad on about 10 more days for that.  You will get your letter and then there is a "forum"  for finding hotels and cars.  We are in Milwaukee so about an hour drive thank goodness.  Then he goes into diver prep school which is the other side of BC from what I understand.  Good luck to your son.  Hope this gives you somewhat of an idea.  If you need any help planning your trip, I would do my best to answer any questions.

Actually, it would be great if it was 9 weeks.    Otherwise, we are traveling right at Christmas or on New Years...not so great!!!!    Do they really shut down for Christmas?  For how long???  We are coming from California so our travel time will be extensive.     I believe we are taking the train...less of a chance to get stuck at the airport with bad weather.

Thanks for the information!!!

Kim

Your best bet would be to talk to his recruiter.  Every school shuts down, but not sure what dates and if necessarily for 10 days.    I was told that Aaron comes home during that time.  Now the problem is if your son has not completed BC before those 10 days, then they are stuck there with minimum staff on the "ship".  Talk to his recruiter.  I want you to get the correct information.  What I tell you is what my sons recruiter told me last friday night.

Here is the discussion about holidays in boot camp from last year, 12 pages worth!  Some of the recruits can be "adopted" for Thanksgiving or Christmas day, but they must be a certain amount of time into their training.  I'd have to read all 12 pages to find out too, so don't ask me how long that is!  (Over halfway through for sure)  And there are forms and deadlines, so better to know about it now, and to have your recruit be prepared to ask about the program.

Do note that policy can change year to year, so never make concrete plans (i.e. deposits) until you get the information verified through official channels.

Also, the A and C school shut down and the sailors can take leave to come home.  Boot camp slows down, but no one goes home or gets much in the way of time off.  They can expect the option to go to church on the holidays, and get a really good meal.  Lots of PT and time for letters.

My son leaves Nov 7 also. It is coming way too fast. Live in Central Indiana.
