Does anybody have a son/daughter that went in to boot camp on May 11, 2010? I am missing my son so much and wondering if anyone has advice on how to get through the 8 weeks of waiting for Graduation. He is in Div.234.

Yep, my son arrived the 12th. I don't know what division he is in yet. His recruiter is on emergency leave. The one page letter should get to me Saturday or Monday. Ask anything you want. This is my 3rd time going through this. We just got back from PIR this last weekend. I think the RTC updates the graduation dates on Monday. So you will know what day graduation is then. Once we know that, we can start a PIR group with that date, so all of us with that same date can chat.
My son also arrived on the 12th. I got the box today so I guess the form letter should come any day now. I am anxious to find out his division but his recruiter said not to call because he wouln't know, just to wait for the letter. Can't wait to get a PIR date so we can plan.
My Daughter also arrived May 11th. We received her box of clothes today (Friday). My wife cried so much when she saw it. Then around 10:30 PM we got a surprise phone call from her. She needs me to mail some paperwork to her. She sounded good and was happy. She said the food was good and she likes marching everywhere they go. They have been fitted for uniforms and were waiting for their name tags to be sewed on. Only got about 5 minutes with her but it was great to know all is fine.

I'm retired Navy so if there are any questions I'll be more than happy to answer. Now that your son is in the Navy just remember your not alone! Your part of a huge family now! We are here for you! The 8 weeks will go fast! Stay proud.
Thank You so much for the support! I just get so nervous because I have had people say that sometimes they do not make it, I am sure he will, but that does get you a little nervous. I wish I could talk to my son, But am looking forward to his letters when they are allowed to write. all of our family and friends are writing to him so hopefully when he does get his mail for the first time there will be lots. How long after he has been there do we receive the forum letter & what is a forum letter? I got my sons box of clothes in the mail on Friday also and I just sat there and smelled his clothes and cried! His siblings and family & of course myself probably a little more being a mom miss him so much and are so proud of him! Thanks again for all the support!
My son left the same day. Got the "box" and I didn't think I could cry anymore....but I did. I received the form letter in the mail last night and found out he is in SHIP 3 DIV 233 and his PIR date is 7/2. Seems like it's 10 years away, but everyone tells me it goes by fast. I made sure I got to the post office early this morning and mailed my 2 letters that we had ready to go and emailed the rest of the family/friends with the address. If anyone's son/daughter is at the same location, I already started a discussion on Boot Camp Moms and would love to hear from you. Luckily, we're from the Chicago area, so we really don't have to make any travel plans for graduation....just about 1 1/2 hour drive.
Take care and God Bless.
Please double check your PIR date. My son had July 2 also written in. He is in Div 231. When I went to the website, the Navy has it listed as July 1 graduation. This makes a huge difference if you already book your flights like I did. (Note: I looked at the side and Div 233 states July 1st). I emailed public affairs about mine and they confirmed July 1st.
We should see the form letter in the mail next week. It should include his mailing address with Ship and Division. They officially start training on Monday starting with a commissioning ceremony for each Division.
I have his mailing addy already, his Petty Officer called a gave it to me Thursday, Just waiting to find out the PIR date, My son said maybe it will be July 9, His Petty Officer said usually you count 8 wks starting the first Friday they are there.
the PIR date can vary. It depends on how many divisions the RTC graduates that week. So far I have seen as few as 6, and as many as 11. My daughter ended up there 8 weeks and 3 days. My son was there 7 weeks and 2 days. He was in a push division. When the RTC website updates the graduation list you will know.
Thanks for the help and info. I hope I do not sound silly.
Nope, you don't sound silly. Just proud, anxious, probably a little sad, and wondering what is next. Been there and done that. Oh, still doing all of those feelings. It is really different being a parent of a military member. Personally, I was in the Army (and now I'm wondering how could I put my mom through this), also the spouse of a soldier who deployed to Saudi, and now a Navy mom. Each scenerio has a different 'feeling' if you would call it, but I can tell you being the mom has the most feelings. This is going to be a great experience for the both of you. Ask anything you want, we will get through this together, before you know it, we are half way there, next thing you know you're packing for graduation (if you are going).
You bet I am going! I wouldn't miss it for anything! Unfortunatly my hubby's work will not let him have the time off so I am probably going by myself or with my dd.
