OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Yeah! I got my first phone call this afternoon!!!! (aside from the "I'm here and won't talk again for 3 weeks call) I was walking through the hospital where I work....and got the call on my cell phone....I had to really focus on who this call was actually from since I receive so many work related phone calls during the day. Thought it was business related! He said, "Hi Mom" which I didn't really hear too clearly. Then realized and asked...."is this my long awaited phone call?!?" I walked to a more quiet place and just didn't care who was around. This was MY Boy calling me!!!! Oh the thrill of the moment! I got THIRTY MINUTES OR LONGER talking time with him!!!!! Oh how I miss him! He certainly does not love boot camp! He is questioning his existence there. Ugh....as so many do, I am sure. I gave him encouragement and stressed that he now has 3 whole weeks under his belt!!!!!!!
Then.....had a several letters (in 1 envelope) waiting on me at home. Ahhhhhh! Happiness is......hearing from My Boy!

Congratulation!!! We are still waiting for our letter. I'm sure boot camp is not fun. My husband called me while at BC (26 years ago) with serious doubts of his own. We had only been married for a very short time before he left for BC. He made it through just fine and was very glad when he did. He said that it was a real feeling of accomplishment. He said that the reason for the harshness becomes apparent once a sailor gets to a ship. Most everything done during this time has a purpose. It's hard to see the big picture while at BC, but it all makes sense as time goes on.

That is encouraging. I do already hear/read some increased maturity in him. He is 25 and this is great to realize in him. He is quiet.....so he has not been yelled at any. Ha.

ilovelucy, I am so happy for you. I believe I read in one of these daunting websites that this was the week they would start feeling a little sad, depressed, exhausted. He will make it and do great! I am figured that is the call I will get too. I bet you were upset a little? I know I will be. Anyway, congrats on the phone call. I want to be next. : )

I hope things start to look up now that they are in their 4th week now. This is the week they get their uniform pictures made. yeah. Yes......I think the exhaustion is a big culprit with my son. But, he did have some laughter. Loved to hear that.

Excitement for sure! Sigh.....you had to share the phone time. He is usually not a big talker....but I was able to keep him talking. LOL. This was a boost for me....to talk to my son. I hope others get that chance very soon if they haven't already.

Hi ilovelucy, I have not received any calls :( Did any of the BC kids say why they were entitled to make calls. Did they have a phone card? I want a call.....

Oh no....I am sorry you haven't yet. My son does have a pre-paid ATT phone card. (If yours doesn't....sent him a card via mail....activiate it)! I know they were supposed to be able to call earlier....but penalized for whatever reasons. He was in the NEX (I think that is the commissary). Maybe your child's unit wasn't allowed to yet. Well to share: they are getting plenty to eat...but have to eat fast, getting awakened at all hours of the night for crazy things like exercises, watch, etc. Sleep is not much. Showers are fast. He said his hair is growing out and that he will be getting another hair cut Friday (tomorrow). Doing lots of marching. This week they will be doing firearms stuff. He passed his swim test....so no more swimming (sigh, that sounded like a cool thing). He said they do most activities indoors. He does not go outside at night.....too much potential for problems. He is making some friends now.....but not allowed to talk very much. They are always marching or saluting someone!!! Ha

In my sons letter he was more eager for me to send him photos. Said he really misses us yelling at him. Ha ! I told him it was going to be rough. He did mention too that he did the swim test and passed. Every time the phone rings, I run to answer it and just telemarketers. oh well.
