Received "I'm Here" call last night...my son started bootcamp last night! WOW!!

Well, we got the call saying he was there and that we would receive his items in about a week.  So many mixed emotions but I can honestly say I am so proud of him and can't wait to see what he does with this opportunity.  My husband is a retired Navy officer...so we have lived the military life as my son has.  Once he graduates from bootcamp he is off to pre-BUDS, and as long as everything stays as planned, he will go to BUDS.  Does anyone know if he will be in a "group" of special-ops through bootcamp or is everyone mixed together?  Any good advice on what I can send him along with his letters?  Would love to connect with any Moms that might have kids in bootcamp around this same time frame!

Not sure about the ID....mine kept his wallet....that was the only thing. He even sent home his shoes! He did put all his hygiene items in...I guess they will give them time to get it! I hope so!!!
Yvette:Sometimes in their haste, Recruits throw things in the box that they don't need to or shouldn't have! Their Bible and ID for example. You may need to mail that back to her once the form letter comes (usually within a week after the box) with her Division#, PIR date, the password to download the RTC parking pass and addy. It's rare for there to be any note in your "Kid in a Box". Oh, and mincrew6, they don't need their shoes, they are issued new ones upon arrival. All part of their new Navy PT/warm up gear. Very sophisticated process used to measure and size them too, state of the art! =)

Anyways, once you have all that info, then watch this official RTC site http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/upcoming_grads.asp
for her Div# to appear as part of a TG (Training Group) that will graduate on a particular posted PIR (graduation) date. There's usually one every Friday, with a few exceptions, and the site is updated every Mon or Tues. Once that is posted, that IS the date for her Div to graduate and it's safe to make reservations and purchase tickets. HOWEVER, things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a test etc) which is why RTC and we recommend that if at all possible, that you purchase travel insurance, and refundable or exchangeable tickets!
One day at a time and you will survive the roller coaster!! This is a much a challange for your child as it it you!
I know...probably even more for him! I say a prayer for him every morning when I get up....it helps me tremdously as I am sure it does him!!! :)
