Today I came home to see a box on the counter thanks to this board I knew what it was but I still cried.  Two days ago I got the form letter with two little lines from my son.  He said it feels like he has been there months even though it was really only day two, this made me chuckle as he is not one who got out of bed to fast in the mornings.  I am sure life is a little different for him these days then it was in the past.  I am so thankful that I have beenreading this board because although I miss him more than I thought possible I know that he will be a better man in 7 weeks.  I want the Navy to help him become the man I know is in there but please do not take all of the boy out of him. He is such a sweet boy and was always there with a hug for me.

I cannot wait to get the first call from him does anyone know what day they usually call?

In his little two sentence letter he hasked me to send stamps, paper and envelopes but I thought I had read on here that the envelopes that we send to our children cannot be to heavy. Any advice?

He should be able to buy paper and stamps at the NEX, maybe he doesn't know that yet. He won't be permitted to write to you for about 3 weeks so by then he'll have it figured out.

As for the phone calls...they are a reward for a job well done so don't expect any calls at all and then you'll be pleasantly surprised if you do get one. They can come any day, any time. I got 2, some moms got 3 or 4, some didn't get any, so it's hard to predict. The one call you will absolutely get is the one after Battlestations in the last week. They pass that, get their Navy caps and are allowed to call home and announce they are officially sailors in the USN.
