Has anyone stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott in Waukegan/Gurnee?  It seems beautiful and right in the middle of everything.  My son hasn't left for BC yet but I'm a planner and this one has caught my eye.  I'd love to hear what you have to say.

We stayed at the Red Carpet Inn on Buckley Rd.  It is right down the road from the base and conveniently located to many places.  It is reasonably priced and it was clean. They also have a swimming pool.   The staff are friendly but a little hard to understand as their accent is heavy.  I think they are German or Swedish.

Has anyone stayed at Americas Best Choice Inn and Suites?? Please Reply!!

Please do not stay at the America's Best Value Inn in Waukegan, Illinois. It was in the Navy brochure and only three miles or so from the Navy Recruit Base so we choose it.

We paid around $85 a night plus tax. We checked in then went to find dinner. When we came back I discovered that our street level windows were closed but unlocked. There weren't any screens. I know better and should have checked but, didn't think about it when we arrived. Fortunately, we didn't have to add a theft to our experience. Rooms were smelly, dirty and there was hair on the bathroom floors and toilets. There wasn't any soap in the bathrooms and the toilet paper was down to a few sheets. Most lights did not function and most electrical outlets were broken.

You could hear the guests in the other rooms. We braved it for two nights and on the second night between 3:00 and 5:00 we could hear clearly "wild monkey dancing" in the room next to ours and tried to block out the sexual exploits of the people in the next room with pillows over our head.

Our stress level was heighten by missing our son, travel and the lack of sleep. I have traveled extensively throughout Latin America and have stayed in many tourist class hotels of third world countries with standards above and beyond this hotel. This hotel was a disgrace. Beware.

Can anyone tell me anything about the Ramada Inn?  I am thinking of staying there because I know the meet and greet is held there.  Also, I am trying to not rent a car and just take a shuttle to and from the airport. Has anyone who has already gone know if that would work or would it be a lot of trouble?
im staying at the Navy Lodge.  i dont think my SR really cares because all he wants to do is eat regular food,  relax in a regular bed, and play call of duty!  haha!  i want to stay close so there is no chance of getting lost or caught in traffic, and being late taking him back to base on time.

My SR's PIR is 10/28 and I made reservations at the Navy Gateway Inn & Suites yesterday.  You can make reservations using your SR's info, but I'm not sure how much earlier and later they allow.  The number for reservations is the same for both the Navy Lodge (outside the base) and the Navy Gateway.  Call them and ask: 847-689-1485.  They were very friendly the three times I talked to them. Good luck!

Has anyone stayed at the Ramada Inn?  I am reading both good and bad reviews.  I am flying in from Texas with my younger son and hoping not to have to rent a car.  I was thinking of the Ramada because of the Meet and Greet and also that the have a free shuttle to PIR.  ANY advise from people who have stayed there would be great!  My son's PIR is 10-28.

My son's PIR was 10-28.  We stayed 3 nights at Ramada Inn Waukegan and it was great!  I paid an extra $4 a night to get a microwave and mini-fridge (you have to call to request the Business Class Queen or King) and two Queen beds instead of two doubles.  Room was plenty big enough.  Customer Service was great and suggested a lot of good places to eat (you should try Potestas for pizza, the best place we ate the whole visit!) and let us use their own computers because they had problems with the one in the business center!  Yes, it is an older hotel and has that older hotel smell, but it wasn't horrible or anything like I have read in some reviews!  I would recommend this place!!  We took the shuttle to PIR and back and didn't have any problems at all.  The free breakfast in the morning was great and really saved us some money (at one time we had 5 people for breakfast).

Has anyone stayed at the Best Western in Gurnee?
We are staying at a Marriott in Lincolnshire, does anyone know how far away Lincolnshire is from the base?

If you go to www.tripadvisor.com and search Great Lakes or Waukegan they list the hotels and a lot of the reviews are from visitors staying there for a family member's graduation.
