Hi I am new here and was hoping to interact with others. My son left 2/7/11. I still have not spoke to him. I am praying he is ok and adjusting to bootcamp.

Hi!  The Meet and Greet is at the Ramada Waukegan.   It is from 6-8 and I believe is in the bar.  They say there are appetizers and if you are staying at the Ramada you get two free drinks.  That is really all I know.  So glad you received a letter from your son.  We did as well.  Isn't it great what the Navy can do in such a short period of time?

O.K. ladies...I need your help.

Looks like we cannot afford for me and my son to attend PIR, just my husband Roy.  We are trying to book tickets before the prices skyrocket but my son in his brief phone call last week said he is grad and go (maybe wrong terminology) to his A school in Monterey, CA Saturday morning at 2 a.m.

My question...does anyone know what airport they use to fly out of to Monterey??  Anyone else have a son/daughter going to Monterey, CA.??

Need to book these now.  Any info asap would help.  We are looking at Southwest using the cheap choice even though they are non-refundable.  Just can't afford the refundable ones.  As is sits it will cost 580.00 to fly round trip.  Haven't even booked the hotel yet or car.  Been waiting for our son to call so we could get better, solid info, but the call isn't coming. Can you guys help?????

Thanks to all!

Hi Otty!   Are you needing the information as to what airport your son will be flying out of to go to Monterey?  If that is the case, then they probably fly out of O'Hare (Chicago).  Is your husband flying into O'Hare via Southwest?  We found it cheaper to fly into Milwaukee, WI.  It is a 45 minute drive to Great Lakes, but we wanted to avoid the Chicago traffic.  From Las Vegas our flight was only $280 per person.  We live in California and are going to have to drive a few hours to get to Las Vegas, but the flights were better.  We are staying at the Navy Lodge which was really reasonable ($60) You don't need your son to check in,  just his name.

Our son is Saturday departure also.  They don't like the term Grad and Go. Don't understand why, but that term only applies to those who are staying in Great Lakes for A School.  Our son goes to Goose Creek, SC.   He also leaves for the airport at 2:00 a.m., but we are going to the airport and stay with him until he flies out.  Hope you get all the info. you need.  Cheryl

Thanks Cheryl.  So you don't know for sure if they fly out of O'hare or Midway to go to A school?

We spoke directly to SW moments ago and they told us they don't fly into O'hare at all.  Only Midway (and apparently Milwaukee, which we looked into). My husband will do the same and stay with him at the airport and then have to drive to Midway to fly home.

I have been looking at the Navy Lodge too.  I have to wait until payday this coming week to book it but that will probably be where my husband will stay.

Was just hoping I could fly my husband out of the same airport.  Seems silly to be at one airport just to drive to another to get on a plane. Oh well.  Thanks for answering so quickly!

Sorry Otty. I am not sure which Airport they do fly out of going to Monterey.  Have you booked Southwest?  The one thing about Southwest is that you can change your flight if need be.  You never know with the Navy.  They may not flight out on Saturday.  Who knows?  Take care!

Yup.  We booked the tickets for my husband today.  I sure hope we get a phone call soon.  Really missing my son.  Still haven't gotten a call.  Been 5 weeks.  But I'm glad they are on the second half of the journey.

Hope all of our kids are doing o.k.

Hang in there ladies.

Otty, your son hasn't received a phone call yet?  Our son was able to call Monday.  We really aren't expecting another phone call, except the "I'm a Sailor" call the week of graduation.  We do keep our cell phones with us, just in case he has to call for some other reason, or earns another call.  Hope you get one soon!

Hope everyone is doing fine and hanging in there as well.  Take care!

Thanks Cheryl.  I hope the call is soon.

I actually had a wonderful dream last night about our division.  They were in a park-like setting, they all had hair, and the chiefs were respected but friendly.  It was a nice dream.  All these young, grown-up 'kids' hanging out together.  Hated waking up.

O.K. ladies.  Maybe some of you know this, but since our kids are in the performing division, I have been checking on the facebook page every weekend for photos of the current PIR.  They post them after every PIR.  In the photos I am hoping to catch a glance of my son.  My sons first letter said the division performs at every PIR. So...check out the fb page, 'like' them and you will get the photos every week.  This week had a pretty good photo of the band so maybe it is our group???  Couldn't see the drum major tho :( but hopefully you will catch a glimps of you kid.!

U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command page.

Good luck!!

Otty, thanks so much for the FB info!!  That is so awesome, hopefully we will be able to sneak a peek at our kiddos!!  It's my understanding, though, that they only perform at 3 graduations; theirs and the 2 weeks prior to theirs, so I don't think their first performance will be until the 25th...I could be wrong, though!

What you said makes more sense.  Even tho his letter stated 'every graduation' there are still divisions before him that would be performing.  I was thinking the same about the pics.  Most likely the 25th.  Still check every week.  We never know!!
Hi ladies, what week are the kids on? Im confused, week 4 or 5? I just learned about hell week which is the 4th week. I hope our kids did good... My last letter from my son, he sounded miserable, but I knew he was going to have a hard time adjusting. Im worried, thats all. I am hoping for another letter soon. How is everyone holding up?
