Welcome to the Division Discussion for Divisions 816

Be very aware when posting about your SRs who are in this division. Make sure you read the OPSEC rules (everyone should).

Although your SR is still in BC, what they are doing may be slightly different from what the other divisions in this training group are doing. It is also recommended that you go into your "settings" (clickable link on the right side) and change your privacy setting to "private" and change everything to friends only.

Please still use the main wall to post general questions, and concerns, such as meet and greet questions etc. Specific questions regarding the 800 division should be posted here.

We “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion groups as often as we would like to, and the ladies helping out with the 800 divisions don't always get to the main wall as often as they would like.

Every single question that is asked is important

Every single concern is genuine

Every single member is important to us

We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.

Hang in there ladies!!!

We just got a short letter yesterday, dated July 9th.  He said there has been a lot of sickness going around, and he was getting sick.  He also mentioned that 10 people had pink eye!  I don't know if that is what he has or something else.  He said he would hopefully be able to call again soon.  I am hoping for a call on Thursday or Friday!

Ladies, keep them in your prayers. They are struggling as a unit. They are divided into 3 divisions: 2 Seal/SWCC, 1 EOD, Air and Dive within the 816. My son has said they are weeding them out instead of doing it at Dive Prep or Seal/SWCC Prep. Some dropped after a 7 mile run and others struggled through a really tough pool workout. Do not worry about phone calls or letters. I have received 1 phone call and 3 letters (he had to have his wisdom teeth removed so that gave him 2 rest days (hence the extra 2 letters-I think). They are trying to boost morale. Apparently Marcus (Lone Survivor) thought the hardest thing was boot camp. These kids are the smartest(besides Nuclear SRs) and the most physically fit. I think its all mental for these SRs. They have to really want it and understand why they want it. Its mentally hard when you haven't lived on your own or lived in a college environment or lived with a girlfriend or spouse and everyone is there for you. This is the exact opposite. They are trying to get you to fail, testing your commitment, testing your resolve with no support from loved ones. I heard they are starting to become friends and are beginning to develop a sense of community. These kids are independent and turning to each other for help is not natural, but my son said they are learning. I hope this helps. The reality is, they need to learn this lesson to survive in a battlefield environment. We need them totally committed to each other and if that means we dont hear from them, I'll be okay with that (not really but 25 days to go).

Those in spec ops do have it a bit harder in BC, yes, they do weed many out before prep, but the regular divisions also go through the weeding out process. There is a high standard to enter the spec ops program, but do be careful when generalizing about fitness, and the smartest, that is not necessarily the case.

There are many in the regular divisions that are just as physically fit, and have passed their testing with just as high and possibly higher scores, but have not chosen nuclear or spec ops as a job. Some don't want those jobs, and some are too old to enter the programs.

My apologizes, I was told by the recruiter that the highest scoring ASVAB was Nuclear, followed by Spec Ops. Sorry if he lead me astray.

That is true Hazard girl, however, there are many recruits that score exceptionally high on the ASVAB, and other tests required for the nuclear program and spec ops, have the physical qualifications for spec ops, but not all those recruits choose those careers.

Some also don't pass the vision, some are over the age of 25 (nuclear cannot be 25 at enlistment), some don't want to give a six year commitment, etc. So there are many reasons why not all who qualify for spec ops and nuclear choose that path.

So for graduation, do they get the whole weekend or just the day? And which hotels are the best to stay at?

I am pretty sure they get the whole weekend, since they move across the street for dive prep.  We are staying at the Holiday Inn

Did you go ahead and reserve the weekend at the hotel?

Hi - veteran mom popping in here to tell you about our group to help you after boot camp. Some boot camp moms are already in the group so feel free to join now. I apologize if I already posted this link but just wanted everyone in the 800 division to know about it. It is for PreBUD/s and BUD/s support. We have moms here to help you and answer questions, etc., some sons have DOR'd, some have gone all the way to SEAL graduation so we have a good perspective on things. If you want to join, please friend request me and let me know your son is in this 800 division and PIR is 08/07/2015.(It helps when I'm screening people who want to join - don't want any "lurkers" in our group).
