Anyone have a loved one in Ship 07 Div 047?

I got my first letter today!! What a great joy it was to finally hear from my son. He had a little downtime on Thanksgiving, so he decided to write his mom.

In his letter, he said that boot camp has been really tough, with the first few days being the worst, but he's starting to get used to it. He says he's learning a lot and meeting people from all over. He told me about his bunk mate who is from Colorado and was homeless before joining the Navy. My son says (regarding his bunk mate), "He's doing just fine here but he's just always hungry." LOL...I thought that was so cute. Ironically, he and his bunkmate share the same first name and middle initial.

Has anyone else gotten their first letter yet?
That is so great! I'm glad somebody has heard from our ship/div. I thought they may have fallen off the end of the world. Lol. That really touches my heart about your son's bunkmate. Maybe we'll hear something today.
Also can you or anybody with a loved one on ship07/div047 make a new "group" for us. I tried but I can't do it from my phone and I won't have access to a regular computer for about a week. You can do it on your personal page. Under groups there is a place to start a new group. Thanks.
I received a letter yesterday! It was written on Thanksgiving Day and I live in NC so I was pretty surprised it got to me so quickly! He told me they all had a really nice Thanksgiving dinner and had half a day to relax and write letters so I would assume many others will be receiving news shortly! He also said that was the first day they had a chance to write!
He told me his shipmates were wonderful - they are a huge support! Life is tough - 3-5 hours of sleep each night, they march and drill daily, making their beds perfectly, getting their gear together, and studying for written tests. He also said they have their first inspection this week so he is nervous about that! Apparently if they fail inspection they get held back from graduation another week or two. Every day they get new guys coming in to their division that have failed and are being held back, so that's nerve-wracking. For some reason they are telling the guys they may not get to see their families until after A-school and he is really down about that - that makes me kind of angry they would say that - I have written to him that only the worst blizzard of the century would keep us from graduation!. I have been writing daily since receiving his address, but as of Thursday he had not received any mail. He was assigned Mail Petty Officer and seems to like the job.
He sounded tired, and a bit sad and homesick - but said he was hanging in there and jumping every time they said jump, trying to make the best of it. I was so happy to hear from him and read his letter over a million times last night. I guess that's why
Mossgirl4- that is so wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing. I hope we get a letter today. Like you, I have written everyday since I got his address. I wonder why they haven't got their mail? Holding it back maybe, as an incentive? I'm with you, only the blizzard of the century could keep me away! I'm still not driving. I will be flying, my husband I'm not so sure about. Lol he has never flown, he misses out on a lot of trips the kids and I took.:( . He says he is going though, so it will be interesting. Haha. I called him yesterday after the mail ran and asked if we got a letter from Don and he said "who"? Oh, how quickly they forget. He didn't do 13 hours of hard back labor lol. Hope to hear today.
I'm hearing it takes 7-10 days for our mail to get to them! Since I've only had his address for a week I'm guessing that's why! Maybe he'll get them all at once!!! :)
I got my first letter from my son today. I was so very happy and crying. he wrote it Thanksgiving night...
