Welcome to the Division Discussion for Divisions 231 and 232

These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.

Get to know each other, your SRs are!

Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.

Every single question that is asked is important

Every single concern is genuine

Every single member is important to us

We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.

Hang in there!!!

That's an awesome picture! And he kept that with him for for all those years. It's so great that he's realizing that dream now.

I too got my first letter today. I don't know when he wrote it but is postmarked June 1. So my guess it was written on Sunday May 31st.

He talked about the 1st week being really hard especially the 2 mile trek to their permanent home, the USS Triton. He said since arriving at their new home things have got a lot easier. Getting their camouflage uniforms was a big deal and it lead to them really starting to work together as a team.

He said his division is very diverse. There are 2 guys from Togo, 2 from Peru and 1 from China. He wrote, "It really is inspiring seeing such a broad range of people help eachother through tough times."

He said the hardest thing is boredom and lack of freedom.

He said boot camp is not all bad. It can even be kind of fun. He says he's met a lot of cool people and their RDC's are great role models and comedians..."even though they scare the hell out of all of us."

He is still the divisions Educational Petty Officer (EPO) and is hoping the division gets a 4.0 average. "It is a big deal because all other divisions will see it and competition is a big deal here."

He said he feels he will do well at Great Lakes. He said hearing his name at mail call is like it's Christmas.

Yay!!!  What an awesome surprise for you.  Thanks for all the details too.  Hopefully they've all gotten the hang of things a bit more by  now.

What do I type into Facebook search to find RTC pictures?

I checked all the pictures carefully and didn't see him. Did you?

Thanks for facebook link info. I didn't see my son but saw a lot I thought was him! Had to zoom into name tags. Thanks for the info about facebook. Had no idea pics were posted there. This seems like a nice support group with some amazing sailor recruits. It has been a joy to meet all of you.

Great news Navymom9829! So glad you finally got letters and very good news about the wisdom teeth. My husband and I each got 2 letters today and my daughter got 1. My son also passed inspection. He is much more upbeat than before. He knows Navymom9829's son and says he's "cool" and they all call my son "Bama."  :)

I wanted to share with everyone something I did that you should try. I typed up a questionnaire and asked him to complete it and return it. I just gave him room to respond under the questions. He said he loved it and wants me to send another one. Thought you all might want to try that.

And I wanted to share this funny thing with you all. He sent one piece of paper for each of us (my husband, my daughter and me) and put a tic tac toe board on each of them. He put in the first "X" and wrote, "your turn." So we each made our move with an "O" and mailed it back today. We thought that was so funny!

I love the idea about the letter from his dog! We have cats. He knows they won't write. :)

I wrote my son a letter from the tree in the front yard. A couple of months before my son left for BC (2012) we had an snowstorm that dumped almost two feet of heavy wet snow, it caused a lot of tree damage in our area. The month after my son left, as spring thaw hit, we noticed that our 20 year old maple was trying to split  down the middle of the trunk.

I wrote a letter from the tree about how it missed him climbing it (at 27 he still climed it for fun), and how the other people were now torturing it as it had holes drilled through it's trunk, and was now bolted and cabled together.

Be creative, "anything" can write a letter. :)

Hello everyone! Our daughter is now a high school graduate! Thanks for your kind words at the beginning of the week. It was a week with a lot of pain, but everyone managed to find a lot of joy too, as we celebrated together.

Welcome to Marybookgirl!

Our son is 23. He'll be going to Pensacola too. Aviation Ordinance. He's always been fascinated with military planes but doesn't have the depth perception to fly. He finished his college degree a week before he left for boot camp and was super ready to be done with college studies too. It was way harder for him than any of us thought it would be. Interesting that all our sons are older than what I guess is the average.

Someone asked where we're from...we are from Washington State but live in West Africa. Our son also mentioned the two guys from Togo in his letter. We lived in the country next to Togo for six years. \

I'm ready for our next phone call. How about you all? I wonder when it will be. You guys are creative in your letter writing!

He studied History and English with a plan to get a master's degree in Secondary Education.  He decided he wanted a break from studies and has always respected those who have served their countries in the military, so this seemed a good direction to go for a while.  Who knows, maybe it will turn into a career!  We've been here for most of of the years since 1998 serving with a organization that is involved in lots of things including hospitals, agricultural projects, churches and Bible Schools.

I knew there were a lot of acronyms in the military, but I don't know how I'm going to learn them all!  I guess it'll be a bit at a time as I need to know.  You said your son is going to be an ET on a sub.  What does ET stand for?

I just got a 30 minute phone call! He sounds great!! Definitely working hard but in a much better place than the last phone call 2 weeks ago. Still has that sense of humor we love. Can you believe they're almost half way to the end???

231's RDO came in about half way through our phone call and yelled, "Let's be like Sponge Bob and and go absorb some knowledge!"
