While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hello everyone~ So its Sunday and I hope our group is writing us all letters as we speak. I'm having a rough one today. To make matters worse, I just read that all females get their wisdom teeth pulled if they have them, have gyno exams and get put on bc pills in bootcamp. It just struck me. The "mom" in me just got very protective and I don't want her to have to go through this. I am sure I sounds silly, but she is still my little girl. She had 1 wisdom tooth pulled not to long ago and she was a huge baby. My dtr is a tough cookie, but boy she was a baby that day. I know she has 3 more that need to be pulled but they were impacted and her recruiter said to wait bc it was considered surgery and it would have required ppwk changes. I am sure I am overreacting, but the thought of her going through this in that environment just made me very sad. Would they give them some time to recover without setting them back? Hmmm
Thanks for letting me vent! I actually feel a bit better and maybe I will hear that its not true! Lol

Hi there. My daughter was also told by her recruiter that she would probably have her wisdom teeth pulled in boot camp as well. She had one pulled previously, and she will need to have the other three pulled. Her recruiter told her they will most likely give her a few days to recover. One thing you mentioned in your post was regarding birth control pills. I had not heard that they all will be taking them. Maybe its a good idea. Any comments?

I've heard the same thing about the wisdom teeth. It makes sense that they would do this, but I still feel sorry for them having to have it done. Very stressful time but when it is all done and over with (boot camp) I'm sure they are going to feel SO accomplished and proud.

I don't have an issue with the BC pills. It is actually good for them for the regularity. I'm just being a big baby about her having her teeth done without me knowing. I have to get over treating her like my little girl. She was def more prepared for this transition than I was or am. She is still 17 and I just feel so protective. I'm having a harder time than I thought i would. I am sure I'll feel better when I hear from her.

I'm a dentist and thought I'd give you my "two cents" if your daughter's teeth are already "in" (erupted, showing in her mouth), she should be able to recoup in about 2 days. Young kids typically recover pretty fast. My son (19) had his out about a month before boot camp. The lower teeth were horizontal and impacted--still below the gum tissue. They had to be cut out. It took him 3 days to recover. He did fine. I'm sure she would rather have them out at home, with mom to take care of her, but she should do ok. With your daughter being 17, they are probably still impacted and will have to be removed surgically. I would recommend she have IV sedation for comfort during the surgery. I would be happy to chat with you if you have any more questions.

TY Joshsmom! The 3 remaining in her mouth are impacted. I'm sure if they take them out she will be fine. This whole process has been so emotional and I just wasnt expecting this. It just struck me when I heard and got me going all over again. Once I hear from her or get a letter I'm sure she'll fill me in and I'll feel much better. The uncertainty is the worst. I'm glad to hear they will give them ample recovery time.

Well aren't we a quiet bunch? Lol
Anyone get a real letter yet? My fingers are crossed for today or tomorrow. The silence and not hearing her yell "Ma!!!!!" is killing me~~~

im still waiting on a letter :( :( I check my mailbox every day w/ hope and u can hear my heart sink when theres nothing there :(
