Sharbear.  my son is on Ship 9 div 287 with a PIR date of 9/7.  We finally bought our plane tickets yesterday for our trip. We just can't wait!  Now....we're just waiting for a phone call or a letter.  It is so hard when you can't hear their voices everyday.

I know what you mean but of course you do. Way to get tickets, that's awesome :)

We decided to drive in as well. It's 6-7 hours, but by the time you go thru security an hour flight can take four hours. And then you still need a rental car on top of the plane tickets for three people. Makes a 6-7 hour car ride sound pretty good. Not as good as an hour, but better than a drive from Texas. Kudos to QuestioningSerenity. :) Hope to meet you all at PIR!

Go right ahead, I don't mind. i'm glad to find another from my 'general' area :D I'm sure your letter will be here any day now. I'm so glad two weeks is almost done with! One more week down till we see our loved ones! Since they have such an important bond with their recruit mates, why shouldn't us wifes/moms/gf's have our own?

I admit, it's so weird not hearing his voice every day like i'm used to! Even before he moved down here we talked on the phone constantly!

Haha thank's Barb! Thankfully it's not a drive by myself, that'd be boring as all get out!

Hello, everyone!

As I posted on the PIR 9/7 discussion board, I got a call today. It was only a few minutes and only because he needed information for his security clearance. But he sounded great and seems happy to be there. (It's not like I could go pick him up if he was miserable, but I can tell when he is stressed and he sounded really relaxed.) I could even hear the smile in his voice.

He said they just started training this week, but that won't affect the PIR date- still 9/7. (Another Mom said it's probably because they are in the last Division in their training group.) They also haven't received mail yet, but he said he would be able to write on Sunday. Sorry I don't have more to share, but it was only a few minutes and mostly security and background questions. I was just so happy to hear his voice. :)

Barb that's so awesome!! I'm hoping that means they are all working well together, which makes it a little easier I hear, cuz my SRs with yours :)  So nice that you have been able to supply all of us moms with this info.

As far as driving...it's a 30 hour trip from Portland and I'm actually contemplating it, haha!!

Wow! That is a long trip. You'll need to take an extra week off just to drive. I hate not knowing how long we'll get to see them after PIR. If we have a car we can check out early and come home or stay an extra day if needed (wishful thinking). But I understand you can change flight times on the refundable tickets as well, so either way is good. Plus it might be fun just seeing Chicago for the weekend if he has to leave early Saturday. Maybe I'll follow him to Pensacola. Think they would notice a stow-away? :)

Haha! I know, I can't make up my mind how to travel because I don't know how long I should stay aughh! I did book room at Navy Lodge though :)

So, I finally decided on travel arrangements. We're taking the train up (44 hrs) and flying back, renting a car. I must say I was impressed with the deals I got on pricing. Went on priceline and named my own price. Quite a bit cheaper (32% cheaper) than the posted prices that kept going up. Only one thing~ no refund/transfer, so I have a lot of faith in my daughter here :). Train, however, is refundable. I won't need a refund or transfer :).

Was wondering if anyone has received any mail from their SRs yet?

Em'sMom- Still no mail, but Cody said he'd write Sunday. I'm hoping we all receive letters this week.

Glad your plans worked out. The train ride sounds like a fun way to travel. Very relaxing. Of course you'll probably be too excited to relax. :)

We (my husband was the lucky one this time) got another call today. He said it was very short, Cody just needed more addresses. He did say he has already passed his first PFT. I can't wait to find out what day they are on so we can follow along with their schedule.

Barb, I am thinking that today is 2-1. Looking at the breakdown of BC they gave us, after the 2nd Sunday is 2-1. This makes sense because they have 6 weeks of training, and the week following training weeks is there last week, and that's for Battlestations and PIR. From today to 7Sept is just under 6 weeks.

Does this sound right?

Barb - Congrats to Cody on passing the PFT!  We still have not received a letter, but sounds like we are not the only ones.  We would love to hear from him!
