Hi,  everyone, my son left 9/23 as part of a group leaving from San Diego.  Well, I finally found out his ship and division last Friday after calling his recruiter.  Still haven't received the letter regarding PIR but assume it is 11/24 as 11/19 PIR has been posted and only goes through Division 004. Just wanted to talk to others and ask "Doesn't it seem like it has taken forever to get the information".  LOL.  Would love to talk to others with SR in this group.

Well, at least we know now and can start planning. Another bonus is we can have Thanksgiving with them. Thank you for letting me know. I left the 11/19 PIR group and joined the 11/24 group. I also started a discussion group for our ship and division. Airfare will be expensive. I think my daughter and I will fly ou 11/23 and fly home on Friday 11/26 at night. That is about $100 more than for the previous week which is still a great deal. I called my cousin who is a flight attendant on American Airlines and asked him the best strategy and all he could say is "ouch". He can't do anything for me cause that is a blackout period. : ( But regardless, I'm going. Try Air Tran from Los Angeles to Milwaukee. They have the best price so far. Of course you have to pay $20 each way for luggage but it is still the best price.
I look forward to it. Please let me know how you are doing on your journey to join the Navy. Let me know when you go to bootcamp, etc. All positive thoughts I can send your way will be there and I would like to know how it is going for you.
That is so exciting. I hope all goes well with that trip. I know when Justin went it was a two day process with a lot of hurry up and wait. He had to go back cause they made him go to a doctor to verify his foot and it's waiver. Thank goodness it is the start of the new fiscal year and hopefully there are more jobs available.
I agree.
i am kind of leaning toward driving. i dont really look forward to the commute, but dont want to be locked into a date to have to go home in case they have more days off because of the holiday. i want the flexibility. i am just so glad to finally know the date and be able to begin planning! : )
I wish I could drive. Because of the expense I have to go home late Friday night. Couldn't afford the airfare on Saturday or Sunday - It more than doubles. Ouch.
i know. the airfare is nuts! i am really kind of apprehensive about driving in case there is bad weather - it is a 14+ hour drive for me, but it seems to be making the most sense at the moment for me. LOL, that could change tomorrow. or if i find out closer to PIR that they are going to be G&G, i may end up flying afterall! : )
I have my airline reservations and will have to pay to change them if necessary but it will still be cheaper than trying to book closer. Oh, well, let's hope it all goes as planned. Have you made hotel reservations yet?
no, not yet. there are 8 of us going from split/blended families. oh joy. so trying to find someplace that we can all get a room at the same place so there wont be so much flip flopping. have you heard of any good/bad hotel stories from anyone? i am not normally an anxious person, but all of these bed bug horror stories have me a little skeeved out! LOl
i don't know if this will help any, but my boyfriend informed me yesterday that they will have liberty from 10/24 the wednesday they graduate until the following monday..
That helps a lot!! thank you, I just hope it will be the same for all the divisions!!
Well, I'm staying at the Springhill Suites in Waukegan. With AAA discount it is $80 a night and that includes breakfast. This is a new hotel (about 3 years old) about 3 miles from base. The room I have has 2 queen size beds and a pull out sofa. I booked it online. Some people say the Navy Lodge is the way to go. You can call them and tell them your child is graduating from boot camp on 11/24 and reserve a room. I think it cost $65 a night. I've noticed that Springhill Suites prices went down that week while Residence Inn and Courtyard by Marriott went up. You could look on tripadvisor.com as there will be reviews of the hotels (which can be really helpful.) I heard you about the joys of split families. I'm not sure if my ex-husband and his new wife are going, but the logistics can be crazy.
