my son will be to Groton after bootcamp and I am very confused as to what happens. He will be a sonar tech.  I have heard things like bess, att, and a schools.  I was told he would be there 6 months but am reading different things. I am just trying to make some sense of everything! I do have a considerable amount of time, yes, but I just like to be "in the know". Any information you have will help! YIKES!

Is there a dictionary for Navy Moms of all the terms we need to know in order to have a conversation with our new sailors without constantly interrupting them to ask what the abbreviation or nickname they just used means?  Its hysterical to listen to them having conversations with each other.  They might as well be speaking Chinese.  We really do need a list!  LOL

I can't stand all the shorthand in texting. My texts are always grammatically correct and in complete sentences. haha.

I have another grandson that goes into the Navy on Feb 2, his recruiter told him he will not need to do'ATT & TECHNO schools he is going for Sonar Tech also.

This does not make the grandson that is in Groton right now too happy LOL

BUT MOOOMMM WHY DO I HAVE TO DO THIS, HE ISN'T!

MOOOMMM MOM MOM IT ISN'T FAIR, MOM!

:p

I sure wouldn't count on what a recruiter tells your grandson. My son is currently at Groton and said he gets really tired of other sailors complaining about what their recruiters told them and what it is really like. If it's not in writing, then the recruiter can say anything. The official websites can give a lot of information.

Hi Im Yolanda from Orange Ca, plan on A school being about 1year long its like going to college full time with guard duty

when ever they want to schedule him. Hope this helps.

I am happy and I am sure he will be too, not having to do all the extra schooling!  I let him do one of the quizes that are on the deppers groups...he failed miserably! hahaha!

JackieQueen  I know we thought it was right to A school after basic but we sure learned quickly that was not the case.

My grandson is suppose to complete his ST A school in March.   Now I have a second grandson going in the Navy on February 2nd also for ST but at least this time we have some idea of things go.

Also since they are doing away with ATT & TECHNO basic training will be going to 13 weeks from the 9 weeks that it was.  My grandson it not yet sure how long his Basic will be

eeeeek!

Hi I am a neebie and have a few questions.  My son will be going to Sub school in Groton he is currently in Bootcamp I wanted to know what are allowed to take with them to Sub school we are meeting him at the airport and he wanted his Cell phone,  Lap top are those allowed or do I need to ship it to him at a later date?

Just talked to another mom who told me that she met her son at the airport and gave him his laptop and phone. I am going to forward you some info.

stevensmom:  I know it's a little late to reply now but in case you haven't gone to boot camp graduation yet I can tell you what we did.  I bought my son a PLAIN black backpack; no logos anywhere.  I put his laptop & accessories in there and all of his cell phone chargers.  I brought him a date book with all of the family's birthdays in it (unfortunately I can't get him to use it!) and I even sent some of his American Eagle underwear!!!  I brought extra white and black socks and white t-shirts.  I shoved all of this into that backpack, met him at his terminal and gave him the backpack.  I talked to the Delta worker at the counter and even got to follow him to his gate and wait with him for the plane.  They seemed to be very accommodating; I was quite surprised.  Just be sure the backpack is plain and black.

Hope this helps.
