Our son left for Great Lakes today...he should be there by now...anyone else?

I am so sorry to hear this. Join the group, SHIP 04 DIV 2341--that is the address too, BTW for the RCU; it is more active than the Ship 6 group (the RCU used to be on Ship 6, but was moved about 4 years ago).
Ship 4 is houses the RCU-Recruit Convalescent Unit-where sick or injured recruits go to heal and be cycled back into another TG. The address is SHIP 04 DIV 2341, 3600 Ohio Street, Great Lakes, IL 60088-7103.
Thank you so much!! I'm mailing all of his letters now.
I'm glad I could help. I hope that he makes a complete recovery and is able to reenter the training process.
My son leaves on March 6th. .. any tips?
Hi Sailor Mom!
My son has only been there for a week and is now injured...however, I can tell you to do a lot of fun things together as a family before he goes. Have a party for him. Encourage him a lot and be sure all of his friends do too.
He didn't take a lot with him. Just the clothes on his back, a wallet, some stamps & his cell phone. They let him keep his chain with cross and his wallet/stamps, everything else came back in the 'kid in a box' yesterday. Paul will be there a week tomorrow. Be sure to ask his recruiter a lot of questions before he goes.
The first few days will be really hard on you...but it gets easier. Congrats to all of you on your new venture! There are so many amazing people on this site that will be able to answer literally ALL of your questions and support you every step of the way. Good luck!
How long before he left did you contact recruiter?
Sailor mom 14, be sure to join the groups I previously mentioned.
It's hard, I know, especially the first three days. Hang in there...he's is safe and with a bunch of kids his age on this new amazing venture! :)
I am not sure about the hold...I am too new here, but there are so many great people on this site that will give you all the answers! Try to find the forum called my son is leaving for boot in January. You may find someone in there who left with your son.
Best of luck to your son and to you too!

AlecsMom, check out Arrival and What Happens at the RTC (clickable link). He will most likely not be in P-Hold that long (although it has happened, so that's why it's written the way it is when I post) because it happens more for those arriving on Thursday and the wee hours of Friday. We do not know of any breaks coming up that would cause the RTC not to have PIR one week, so even if he does remain in P-Hold until the next recruits finish P-days, he will only be at the RTC for 8 1/2 weeks and those joining the division will be there for 7 1/2 weeks and it will be a Push Division. His PIR is most likely 03/08/2013, but you won’t know for certain until you get the form letter. He will be able to study the book work while in P-Hold, but they don't do a lot of physical training during that time. Don't worry. He will be fine.
