Our son left yesterday too. We got our call last night, he sounded serious, but not scared, so that was a relief.

My son left yesterday   : /     We got a brief call last night but I love to hear his voice. Tonight was really hard sitting at the family table with his place empty. Don't get me wrong I am so proud and I know he is on a great path. It is just hard to let go...

You may want to join the other two moms in the group, DEP-Leavin' for Boot Camp in January. Not only are they there, but you will meet others with loved ones who left yesterday or this week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there. Once you know your SR’s PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that once it has been created.

Thank you lemonelephant...I went to the other group to post. I heard from our son last night around 10:20 or so...he also sounded serious, but not scared, very confident.

I, on the other hand, have been very weepy! I have my ups and downs, I am taking it harder than I thought and it's only been a day. I think it's because of the lack of communication that I have been so used to. I am so happy for him and proud...but ugg, I miss him!!

1 Friday down and you will see him in 8 Fridays.  Hang in there; things will get better.  (((((CTMom))))) That's a cyber hug from one Navy Mom to another.

Have you read the info in Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones)?

thank you so much, I really needed to hear that.  This web site has helped me more than I can ever say. I will count the Friday's and think of the wonderful Moms who have already made it through.

You are so welcome.

Thank you SO much!! I needed that and wow, what a great way at looking at it! 8 Friday's doesn't seem so bad. :)

You are so welcome.  Yes, it does seem to help to count Fridays rather than days.

Ok, I have another question....My son't girlfriend got a 30 second phone call from my son tonight!! How did he get to do that so soon?? Have you heard of this??

It happens sometimes and has happened more recently than in the past that the RDC will allow a call of less than 2 minutes to some or all of the recruits in the division the first weekend.  It is an attempt to boost morale.

Another possibility is if it was a scripted call, much like the one you got when he arrived, then he took advantage of the RDC's opportunity to allow those who did not reach someone or were unable to make the "I'm here!" call upon arrival and made a call. The RDC or someone else stands there while the call is being made and the recruit has a card to read from.

Ok, so I'm assuming it's for boosting his morale...thank you..
