Hello,

This is my first time on here, my son left for boot camp today..  Been a day of mixed emotions. Just had a question, according to whay my son told me and the Great Lakes web site, he will be able to call home for about a 30 second phone call to let us know he has arrived. Havent heard from him yet, he should have arrived hours ago..  Is this common? Could he not call?  Been on pins and needles waiting for the phone to ring.  Thanks for any info anyone can give.

My son left on 9/14, we did get our quick phone call around 8:15 pm. He sounded stressed and a little scared, but I know he'll be ok. He is one of the strongest people I know. Can't wait to get that letter and find his group on here. I love this website it has been a lifesaver the last few weeks, while we've been trying to figure everything out. Hope we all get our calls and/or letters soon.
Hi My son left on 9/14. Fed Ex just delivered his box a little while ago. Since he was told by his recruiter that he could not take his cell phone or anything with him, the only thing in his box were his favorite tennis shoes he wore. I guess he must have thrown away the clothes he wore, he did wear old ones. I thought I would be ok when I got his box, but I was wrong. I just took his shoes and held them like I was holding him when he was little. of course, I cried. But just to encourage any one else waiting for their box. It was like a life line to him. And a sign that he is ok. Now waiting for that first letter.. I am so thankful for this site. And for all of you that offer such good advice and information.
Thank you
Brian's mom
I understand about that box being a link. My son finished bootcamp on 4/30 and is 3 weeks from finishing A school. He thinks I'm nuts BUT, I still have the box. If my husband or son throw it away, WATCH OUT!!! My husband asked me what I was going to do with it and I told him that I would bronze it if I wanted to, it's mine, now leave me alone and don't touch it!
