Hello everyone!  I am completely new to this site --- the past few day have been tough.  I am staying positive though because what my son is doing is such a fantastic, honorable & positive thing!

he texted me last night that he had just landed in chicago at around 9pm --- i haven't received a phone call yet from the great lakes that he is technically there.  I'm sure this is normal --

anyone have there sons/daughters leave yesterday??  any feedback would be great ... i am also wondering when they get pictures done?  my husband and I threw a going away party for my son and i  would like to include his navy pic with the thank yous.

looking forward to hearing from all my fellow moms ;)

I received my box today too. I agree, it would have been a lot harder if I wasn't expecting it.

I got the box too and it was great. We never received the I'm here call so the box was my reassurance he is on the Navy's hands. Looking forward to the next steps. Not sure how others are getting PIR info for those that left 9/5 but waiting patiently.:)

My son left the 4th and his division actually got to make a 5 min phone call on Sunday.  He told me PIR is Nov 2.

I too received the "kid in a box" on Monday, my son left on 9/4.  Got the quick phone call from him that night around 11:00, was very short and rehearsed but was very prepared for it!  Was still very hard to not be able to talk with him some more!!  Not sure how everyone else is getting the exact PIR date either, I am guessing around 11/2.  I just counted eight weeks from the time he left!!  I am just trying to have patience and hoping to get an address soon so that we can at least write!  Looking forward to that first letter so that he can tell me he is doing well!!!  It is so hard not to have the control any more over his life!!!

Knowing what is coming is a good thing.

Join us on facebook PIR 11/2/12 if you are not already on it.  Easier to talk with those that will have the same PIR.

Yes maam, my son also left on that day and i called his recruiter today and asked for his mailing address. Im extremely Blessed!! So i sent him a letter today :)

Since you received the address from the recruiter, double-check the address against those at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp because Recruiters sometimes give a generic address for the RTC and that could delay letters to your recruit.

Finally got his address in the mail yesterday!!!!   I am sending off 5 letters today!!!  Can't wait to get a response back from him, just want to know how he is holding up!!!  I understand no news is good news, but come on this is killing me to wait!!!  YIKES!!!  Graduation date set for 11/2, so come on time hope you go by quickly!!!

hey conalita.. i am new too.. been in 2days, my son left 09/05 also from Texas.

My daughter left on Sept 4th. I got her box and letter last week and then this past Saturday I got a call :) She sounds so happy and proud. We only talked for a few moments, but it was so good to hear her voice. I was so worried she'd be upset or unhappy, but quite the contrary. I am definitely going to join the facebook page!!

Such a proud momma... we all are :)
