Hello everyone,

I am new here. My 21 year old son (my baby) left for the Navy today. I am so very proud for him !  But the other side of that coin, I miss him like crazy already.

He is very strong and will do well. He and I are very close.

Dear lord, this is so hard.... I just cannot quit thinking about them being in his face, yelling at him, belittling him, making him feel stupid.... I know he will be fine and I know he will be a much stronger individual after he does this, I know this is the best thing for him..... I guess I am taking it hard...

Anyway, I know I am rambling.. sorry  :(

Even though I dont sound like it right now,  I am VERY excited for him and his future .  :)

YES MY DAUGHTER ASHLEY GASKINS LEFT ON 10-24-2011.AND IM REALLY TAKING IT HARD ALSO IM THINKING ABOUT HER CONSTANTLY ESPECIALLY THE HOLIDAYS COMING UP .BUT IM HAPPY FOR HER.
I am so jealous of all of you who have gotten phone calls!  Our 20-yr. old son shipped out of Houston yesterday too, but we have not yet received a phone call.  :(  It would make me feel so much better just to hear he made it there safely.  I like the idea you all mentioned about starting to write those letters now before we receive the info on where to write to.  Thank you all for sharing some of the "inside" info on all these things including your guesstimates on when his PIR is.  We were supposed to be at an event in San Antonio that weekend, but we'll gladly cancel those reservations to fly up to see him!

Lucy my name is Michelle my son (18 yrs old) left today 10-26-11 for Boot camp, feeling your pain he is my oldest and though I am very proud of him.I'm having some difficulty today missing him and knowing that I won't get to talk to him very often. I find rambling helps sometimes.   Michelle

Parents of those son's/daughters that shipped 10/24.. We are in this together, day by day, week by week. HISLIGHTS mom please don't worry regarding "not receiving" a phone call.  I am sure he is ok or you would have received a call from his recruiter. Here's my experience when I was in bootcamp....1st phone privilege...got up to phone and couldn't call (big lump in my throat) thought I would throw up. 2nd phone privileges...got up to phone and couldn't call (big lump in my throat) thought I was going to throw up again...FINALLY, 3rd phone privilege I CALLED and finally spoke to my family :-). I just was so home sick I couldn't call, was afraid what would happen if I started crying..what others would think.  I am sure your son will call soon :-)! I have already written 1 letter and writing another tonight :-).  Letters are very important during bootcamp.  You can read them over and over :-)! So ladies get your pens and paper out and start writing!!! Just to let those mom's know I am retired 24 years Navy Chief and what your son/daughter has done is the most awesome thing in the world. I am proud of all our men and women in uniform.  Remember Veterans day is coming up....give a VET a hug or just a "Thank You" for serving your country!!!! It means alot!!!!

Thank you, NavyChief04.  Your comments made me feel a LOT better!  I think your possible scenario about it being too emotional right now for him to call us is a definite possibility.  He acts the "tough guy", but he's really a softy in the inside.  I will remain hopeful to hear from him soon.  I have started my letter writing and will have them ready to mail when we get his mailing address.  Yes, I am a DAR member, and we support our active military and veterans and our chapter will be participating in the Wreaths Across America coming up soon too.  A monument is also being erected here in Northwest Houston in memory of the young men/women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan, and our chapter is donating to that monument.  Thank you goes out to all veterans!!!  Thank you, thank you for your service!   Lori

Hello all...I hope to have the new PIR group up and running for those that arrived at BC this week within the next couple of days. So you all will have a "home base" very soon! There will be LOTS of info about calls and letters and PIR and several+ veteran moms on the group to answer questions and lend support!

Thank you for your patience!

Hello fireteamleaderwife! You seem pretty familiar with all things bootcamp. From your past experiences, when do you think the 10/24 and 10/25 and there abouts will graduate? I know it is not a for sure answer until we get the form letter but I was just curious about your opinion!
Thank you :)

Thank so much FireTeamLeaderWife. I know we are all looking forward to our PIR being listed, it will make it seem like time is going faster.

Well, on a different note...  I came home from work today to see a box on my porch and I just froze..... I just stood there on the porch staring at it, like if i got any closer it would bite me or something.   After a few minutes... probably really just seconds, I went in and sat my stuff down and came back on the porch and picked that box up "ever so gently" and went and sat it on the counter, I think I touched every centimeter of that box.... then ever so carefully opened it, boy did he use a lot of tape.... then i see my note written on the flap of the box....

"I sure do love you. It's hell, but fun. Sorry I didnt get to call. I love you. and he signed it."

I just lost it crying so hard..... I sure do miss my young man.  I picked up his jacket and just held it and cryed..... It actually looks like he stood in the box and everything just fell off of him into a little pile. I  finally composed myself enough to look through the box and found all the goodies, airplane ticket stub, receipt from eating his first Chicago style pizza in the airport and a few other things....

I have already written him 3 letters. I am ready for that address. :)

What a special treat to have him write on the box, I haven't gotten my box yet, having a note in there would be a nice surprise, dont know if he would think of that though. I did get a call guess I can't want for to much. I will probably be the same when I see that box.  I have 2 letters ready to go, I hate not being in charge!!!
Oh my gosh !!!  Me too !!  lol  :)
I got my box today too. I called the recruiter today and got his address and actually got a letter in the mail today. He should be able to get it for you. My box was minus shoes and jeans, he must have donated them?? Can't wait for that first letter. My son didn't write on the box:(
We got our box today too with his clothes and shoes and some loose change at the bottom of the box. No note though. I wonder if the return address on the box is their mailing address?
