Hey, we have a whole group of moms that have our Sons/Daughters leaving from all over the US on the 18th. MY son and I are from Johnsonville, SC. He will probably fly out of Columbia.... I think :/ Maybe they will meet up when they get there. From what I understand though there are a lot of recruits and they go all over. What is your son going in as, for?? J is going in as an E-3, MA. Hope to talk to you more!

Heather

P.S.... J's name is John also!! LOL We also have a Joshua going on the same day!

Johnathon is training for AC- Air traffic controlman

My son left for BC on the 18th but from Atlanta. I am in Tehachapi, California just southeast of Bakersfield. I got my 15 second phone call Tuesday night. I feel like he has gone to another planet. I am used to hearing from him by text or phone calls everyday. I've been in a fog all week. We are proud of him but Dang, this is hard for me.

My son also left on the 18th. We were lucky in one way in that he and a few others coming from Indy had to wait a while at O'Hare for the bus to pick them up.  We got to talk and text quite a bit before he got to Great Lakes. We got our "I'm here" call much earlier than I thought we would - about 8 pm central time.

Have you gotten "the box" yet?  We haven't, and I am dying to get his address so I can send him the letters we've been writing.

(My son is Mike and is going into the Nuke training program)

I got the box but no mailing address.

Yes, I was a little down because I didnt get an address in the box.. but this site is really comforting.

My son left on the 18th also from Cleveland Ohio. It's been the longest 6 days ever!!! I got his box Friday no form letter yet. thinking I should be getting that tomorrow or this week sometime.

I got his call around 8:30 est time the I'm here, you'll be getting my stuff script.  Wish it could have been a lot longer.

So now im feeling much better about not getting the address.

Were you there when he swore in?

You can get calling cards (actually a phone number and PIN) at http://callsforrecruits.org/. Ronny and Anna provide those through that website if you email and ask for them. They will email you around 12, but will send more if you need them. Each PIN that is provided is a onetime use number.  Be sure to make a donation while you are on the site.

They call from a pay phone (except when they call to get information and those calls are on the Navy) and yes, they can call landlines and cell phones.  Yes, they can call collect, but it's better to have a calling card.  They are able to buy callling cards at the NEX as well, but time to activate the card takes time away from calls they could be making.

there a group on here that gives the phone cards and a few extras to share. Gotta find the group though. Will look and post it!
