For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Student loan repayment
I'm very proud that my son has decided to join the Navy. One of the incentives was that the Navy would help pay off some of his college loans. (He attended a state university for 2 years)
Since he has signed up, he has been given very conflicting informatiom about the eligibility for that program such as: his ASVAB score was a few points too low; he was not eligible to repeat the ASVAB; that the loan repayment program is just for those in high risk jobs; and that the whole program was discontinued about 6 months age. It is still listed on the Navy website. Does anyone have any experience or information regarding loan repayment? Liz

Hi Liz, I don't know if you still follow this website or not since you posted this in 2010, but I was curious about whatever happened about your son's student loans. My fiance is experiencing the same thing and I am trying to figure out if there is anyway we can get the Navy to own up to their promise and pay the loans.

The only way that the Navy is going to pay for student loans is if it is stated on the enlistment contract (same for enlistment bonuses). Last I checked there is only 1 job that offers student loan repayment and that is MU. There are a few jobs that offer enlistment bonuses, all spec ops/war and Nuke jobs.
There is no reason for the Navy to offer student loan repayment or enlistment bonuses at this time, they have more then enough people willing to serve.
