My son joined the Navy back in 2010. He completed his boot camp training in May of 2011 at Great Lakes, IL. He just recently became a seaman. The only thing is that I do not hear from him as much as I would like to. I worry a lot about him. I pray everyday for him and his seamates that God would keep them safe and watch over them.

My son has informed me that his country comes first then  family. I have accepted his comments. But as a mother you are always worried about your child.

I recently went on the Navy website and found Navy for moms. I read many of the postings and Iwant to say, I can related to some of the comments given. Also, it gives me comfort that I am not the only parent with question and concern. I found this website to be a comfort and I want to be a part of it.

Thanks Navy for mom for accepting me as a memeber.

Be Blessed!

Well Sharone, welcome aboard!  I too have related to many of the feelings, my son is now deployed, and I won't be able to see him until this spring or summer even.  I don't know how old your son is or whether he is assigned on a ship, and I am thankful he is willing to serve our country!  Thank you to him and you!  But I would also like to encourage you to find ways to support him. (whether he thinks he wants it or not!)  Many ships have a facebook page, or other support group site. Mail and care packages are always good, and I encourage you to find ways to visit and to try and be a part of what he is doing.  I know that is my desire,  things just well up inside me when I see pictures of the ships returning home and family and friends lining the pier to welcome them home.  I am hoping to do that someday.  Yes, and this has been my own journey with God as I let him go and grow up and become a man.  You will do fine too!  Good luck!

Hi my daughter joined in 2002 right out of high school.  My daughter completed boot camp training in Great Lakes, IL also.  She has been stationed at a few duty stations here on the east coast and west coast which wasn't bad because I was able to go and see her or she would come home but now that she has been deployed it has been very hard on me.  This will be the first holiday that I will not have both my children with me.  I always support my daughter in her decisions but you are right as a mother we worry.

I was happy when I found this website and saw that there are other mothers experiencing what I am .  I also pray everyday for her and all on the ship for their protection and safe return.  just keep praying for our sailors and all of us.  We will be okay.

Hi Tricie, I was looking at the date which I replied to the beginning of the discussion, quite a while ago.  So you must have 2 daughters in the Navy?    I have one Navy son and one Army son.  It has been 2 years since all 5 of us have been home together in the same house.  I have been praying that both sons will be home for Christmas as next Christmas my Navy son will probably be deployed so it will be another 2 yrs. again, or 4 total.  I know of other families in our area who have multiple children in the military all over the world, and it does make it hard for all to be together.   Yes, we just have to make do, and keep praying,  it seems just when I need to hear from them, they will make a phone call!  And I feel so thankful!  Keep in touch with them, and encourage them to stay in touch with each other as well.  Let them know each others schedule, so if one comes home maybe the other would have time off as well even if it isn't a holiday.  Keep your chin up!
