My son signed his contract last November and his ship out date of 8/8/2011 seemed so far away.

Now, not so much! The time is flying by! He graduates high school in early June then leaves for a church choir trip (to Chicago, no less!) and then a mission trip.

It is becoming VERY real as the days fly by. And I am feeling a distinct ache in my chest.

I like to write, so I started a blog to help me sort out my feelings.

How are you all doing as your child's departure date grows closer?

hugs to all~Dale (Ian's mom) ♥

I know what you mean! My son graduates in 2 weeks and then the time is really going to fly!!!! EEEK!

Im right there with ya both and was just thinking today how I have less than a month till he graduates and only a lil over 3 months before bc. I know that once he graduates the next few months will just fly by!! While I have my days of being a very proud mom and very excited for him, I have others where it seems all I can do is cry!!! I am truly grateful that I have found n4m and all the wonderful people on this site!!

Yes, this site is saving my sanity!! I keep thinking... "last Mother's day with him home, last this, last that.." sigh. It is hard not to be sad, but so happy and proud, too. I am a mess! LOL!!

Hugs~Dale

seadreamstudio- i am doing the same!!  I said that for Mother's day, and just got our family pictures done because it will be the last for a while!  we have all these plans this summer for same reason.  I am a mess too and thankful for my friends on n4m!!

I feel your pain!!!! ♥

Here's my Navy mom blog... http://sonandsea.blogspot.com/

Hey guys, I agree with this post - I signed on in September of last year and I ship out on August 10. I thought my time waiting would be agonizing...which in reality is has been, but looking back at the same time, it has flown. I have 2 more months and I'm actually kinda anxious. I'm going in as a QM (Quartermaster) which is basically helping to navigate the ship. I'm sure I'll be leaving with a lot of your sons/daughters.
What a cool job! What is your ship date???
I'll leave out for New Orleans on August 9th, and make it to basic training on August 10th

Not long!!! Are you ready?? My son needs to go through his room. He is working out a lot.

Oh, my! Time is FLYING!!!!!!!!

I'm sure they have doubts. My boy does not tell me he does, but when I ask him if he's excited, he says "I guess so. Nervous and excited." I try to talk about the positives and how quickly bc will go. (Quickly for him - snail speed for me, I'm sure.) My son leaves 8/8/11.

My daughter ships out on August 24, 2011.  She will be in IT.  She became a DEPer in February. About 4 weeks ago she decided that she did not want to go in because she was going to miss the family plus she has a boyfriend now.  I arranged an intervention for her, her boyfriend and her recruiter, his Chief and of course her parents.  We discussed all of the pros and cons of joining.  We all gave her some time to really think things through.  Well, last week she met with her recruiter and told him that she was still shipping out.  We were all so proud of her.  I have learned alot from this site.  I really appreciate all of the insight.
Sharon-My daughter leaves 8.22.11.  We went through the same thing!!  LOL
