Who else has a SR leaving for GL this week?

My son is at the hotel right now. We will go see him take his Oath in the morning and spend a bit more time with him before he leaves.

My son left on July 2nd received his box today with.everything in it he left with,I dont understand .his recruiter told us to pack a change of clothes but they sent everything even his shoes he was wearing.his writing supplies that I bought hma all tablet to write in and a pen and paper.what I thoight they were going to send back they didnt. still no letter yet woth address, and they told me to send his high school diploma and we didnt get that back either.this is so overwhelming.

It will get easier as days go by...you've already crossed the big hurdle...the box...from what I understand.

Don't worry about the contents...just write those letters every day/week and send them when you have the address...and encourage friends/family to do the same. From what I've been reading here, it's the best way to keep both yours and your SR's spirits up and to keep yourself sane.

I know it's overwhelming...but don't hesitate to vent, ask questions, or even ask for a prayer when you're feeling it's needed (for me, that seems daily, but I'm working on being more patient.)

We're here for you!

Can I ask where you live? I think that would give some of us an idea as to when to expect our SR's box.

I'm already learning that Ma Navy has her own agenda, time schedule, and way of doing things. We will all just have to get use to it :)

Glad you got your SR's box so that you can go ahead and deal with that. I have mixed feeling about getting it....ready to get it and get through that hurdle, but also dreading it at the same time.

Here is something I found on Facebook today...I think it's appropriate here...Chins up ladies!!! (If you have several like me...otherwise, just the one!!LOL)

Very true! Today is the first day since my son left that I feel a little better, now if I can remember to breathe and not hypervenilate LOL

Good morning!!
I hope everyone is doing well this morning!

I was sitting on the deck this morning watching the dog bark at 2 snapping turtles outside the fence and I thought "Oh...I should wake him up and show him these 2 HUGE turtles"...then I remembered that he's busy fighting Ninjas and doing Sharks and probably wouldn't be impressed. Which is fine, since I'll just put it in the letter I've been writing him!

It's a constant adjustment...remembering that they're not in the next room...and having to think about how I'm doing things so that I don't have to depend on my SR to do the things he used to do for me...like reach tall things, carry heavy objects, open tight jars and other general stuff. Yesterday I conquered several of those tasks...used my "grabby reach-y tool" to hang some things outside high up...and I was so proud of myself!!LOL Yep, it's the little things!!

I didn't sleep well last night though...after reading some of the posts on other pages I think I was a little wound up...wondering how he was handling things like public showers and toilets, and the idea of a tiny bed (rack) and my HUGE kid. I realize that it's normal, and I'm proud I wasn't weepy, but still got my mind to wandering.

So....the question of the day: How are you staying busy and what's the "weirdest" question you'll have for your SR when you do communicate with them?  Mine is about the "personal" time...since he has a "shy" bladder...and won't use the bathroom in public easily...I'm wondering how he's handling all that. (I know, a little overshare maybe!!LOL)

Have a great day!

My son left for BC in GL on July 2nd. I recieved his box yesterday. We have letters we would like to send, however, I dont have an address for him yet. There was an address on the box but i am afraid to send them to that address for fear he wont get them. This sight has been so helpful and I appreciate all the people on here, It is a wealth of knowledge. I now know I can call his recruiter and get the address. Thank you for that information. I would like to let everyone know that I am proud of all of our NAVY children. They have taken quite an oath. They are our future and we should be proud that they are. I just want to take this opportunity to say thank you to each one of you for raising amazing men and women!!

My son left on Monday... It's been a rough week especially when my Grandson came yesterday and started crying for his uncle. We had to try to explain he is gone for a while however, getting a three year old to understand is kind of hard.

Just a thought/prayer for us, previously posted by Hooyah/Leah on a page from 2009:

Mom Be Bold
I may clutch a picture of my child
Wander into his room where the memories run wild
Thoughts come with me wherever I go
Prayers often lead my way, you know
My young one has left to be so brave
The hero of my heart, gone to save
At times I want to reach out and hold
But I know his answer, "Mom be bold."
The love of my child is part of me
So strong and good, it will always be
Nurtured in life by a caring heart
This child to me is a work of art
Dear God you know my love is true
I've prayed for my soldier, more I'll do
And to mothers who live their life and I
We'll grow in support, with our flag raised high
Together we'll get through each new day
Becoming great friends, God Bless our way.

Remember why you feel your heart has been ripped from your chest...it's because we've sent it along with them to hold on to during their toughest times.

I hope this helps you all as much as it helped me.

Thanks for sharing. I really like that.

Hey so I posted earlier that my hubby had left on july 2nd... just an update I got his address from the recruiter on friday eve with his ship and div and all that... still no box but since Im all the way in washington Im not going to expect it til next week sometime. I sent him my first letter today but I read online that they have to federally train an SR to go get the mail and deliver it so that can take a few weeks for them to start getting mail but Im just going to keep writing whenever I can and just cross my fingers he gets them :)

Glad to hear that you've gotten word...now you can really begin the process...write those letters and keep us posted on any other news!!

We're all in this together!
L.
