Good Afternoon ~
So far I have only received the "form letter" from my son. He left for quarantine on 6/10 and listed his graduation date as 8/7 (although I see others showing a grad date of 8/6?). Because it appears that the quarantine time counts, it would make it around the 3 week mark. I had hoped I would get a call over the weekend, but did not. Is there a day of the week or time of day that they usually can make their first phone call? I was so nervous being in an out of cell coverage this weekend and have been praying to God that I did not miss his call. Nothing showed on my phone however. Any info would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!
Hi Lauraadc - We have a lot more discussion in our main BC Mom group page that gets noticed sooner, than here in the BC Forum, so I apologize that no one has replied. Having a form letter is better than nothing and as BelovedbyHim mentioned earlier, the sailors are only given two for sure calls - the "I'm here" and the "I'm a sailor" call. Other calls may or may not come. I received one at about 3 weeks and 6 weeks - 3 years ago. Lately, we have heard some are getting calls at 4 weeks, some not until 6 weeks (after leaving MEPS) and some may not even be getting a call until they have graduated.
Aug 7th is a Friday and would be the normal graduation date - but we have had some divisions, that are done and there sailors are shipped out the next day, so that may be why you see an Aug 6 date but I don't know.
I am thinking that calls can come anytime (at least currently we have heard of calls coming in later than 8 pm) from I think 8 AM - 8 PM - except for Sunday morning. Some people put a voice message on their phone, especially for their SR during BC time so if they call they hear that message. That seems a little awkward to me, but it could be an option. Or give an indication to call another number.
I have to scoot but I hope this helps a little bit.
Thank you, I don't think I am doing a great job of navigating this site and all the groups yet! I so appreciate your reply.
lauraadc - it is okay, if you are using a phone instead of a computer, it can be more cumbersome. If you are using a phone, be sure to put it into desktop mode. Also, you are a member of BC Mom group, so if you go to the top bar of this site and where it says My Page - click on that and it will take you to your profile page. You can also click on your profile picture, I think, and it will take you back to your My page. Then you can scroll down and find the profile picture for BC Moms group - If you click on it there, it will take you to the main group page. Scroll down past the information in the middle - where you will come first to discussions and then to Comments. The comment section is where we do most of our chatting and answering questions in that comment section. It also goes to our email feed for most of us, so we see it and know there is something new.
The site can take some getting use to, but the more you are on it the more you figure things out. I don't do social media except for this and one other very private group, so it took me awhile to get use to as well.
