I was curios to know if there are any Universities or Colleges on Base for Civilians? I am definitely planning on moving on base with my husband, we are actually planning on moving out there while he is still in his A school since its 18 months long. But at the same time I still want to continue my education as well, does anyone know if they have Universities or Colleges on Base where their spouses can attend, I am planning on studying Psychology.
What do you mean on the base? AS in the University is on the base physically? Than the answer is no.
Keep in mind you will be paying for the college. The GI BILL he can not give you until he has been in 6 years and than reenlsits for 4 more years.
Hi Angie thank you for replying to my post. I am aware that I have to pay for college on my own, we're leaving the GI Bill for our daughter.
I was wondering if there was maybe something like small branches of a college at the base so that people can earn degrees while they are there. I know that they do have ways to help the Navy men and women earn their college degrees while they are stationed or traveling so I was curious to know if they had anything similar to that for the spouses.
The bases have what is called a Navy College Office...they aren't small branches of the college where people can go take classes though....it is an admin person who helps the Sailor get signed up to take classes if they want to. I used them to sign up for classes, some where on line some where in seat classes. When my hubby was in Africa on IA (he is USN also) he went to an office before he went IA and signed up for classes on line.
But the Navy College Office is for Sailors, not spouses Click here for Navy College Office info
MyCAA Check that out about funding for you.
Sorry ever spouse I have ever meet signs up for classes out in town and pays for them out of pocket, there are TONS of colleges around ever base I have ever been stationed. (CA, VA, IL,and MS)
Recommend you do research for the degree program you are looking for and than figure out which college you want to go to, and see what school is near the bases that you might go to.
If she ends up in Japan, University of Maryland University College (that's not a typo, BTW), offers a psychology degree and the night classes are held on base. Stateside is off base only, but I finished my psych degree on base in Yokosuka.
The redundancy in the name making it a perfect college for a sailor I suppose? :)
Southern Illinois University has many Navy base location around the world they also have several college degrees you can get through them.
