What you DON't want to do to your sailor in boot camp!

Mind you I was in DEP for a year and then went in the Navy at age 19. my recruiter envy told me and I never told my mom that my phone call home after arrival at boot camp would be less than 20 seconds. I was one of the last to call and could barely get out the words I was here. Mind you this was after we had been there for 6 hours or so. My mother also lived around the block from BC Orlando. The next day my company commander...about 4'11" white short hair, stocky, seemed to have a red hot temper...yelled my name down the passageway where all of us were standing on the line. "Baugher!!" she roared over and over. Wha?....My 2nd day here...what do I do? The whole company of 200 girls freeze..everyone was scared to move. I finally walked up to her...me being 5'6" and weighing skinny and underweight answered her.she started yelling at me about how my mommy was calling my recruiter as she didn't hear from me and if I was okay. My mom isn't one to freak out but it was a shock how shortvthevcall was and so late.it was like that call stirred up a bees nest.later my cc was cool about it and blamed it on the recruiter for not doing their job. As weird as it sounds my recruiter had respect for me. She even apologized for yelling one time at me. I turned Dow being a yeoman to go ino choir...mind a cat in heat sounds better...but I had loudness.

WOW interesting...we try to tell N4M's to NEVER call the RTC and ask about their rct.  I guess I should add the quick, scripted call to the info I post on the DEPer groups. Do you have someone in the Navy now? I hope you'll consider popping in on the PIR, Boot Camp Moms, and/or the DEPer groups and help with the advice and support of the newbies.

Jessica, It is my god-daughter that is in bootcamp right now. I am closer to her than my nieces and nephews thanks to her mama that was willing to share her. I was there the moment she popped into this world and have enjoyed her every minute. I will pop in over there too. Thanks to all of the mama's on here!

Another DO NOT DO....Do Not send singing greeting cards or decorate the outside of any kind of envelope with stickers, glitter, etc...The RDC's will make an example out of your loved one, and they will NOT appreciate it. Keep everything you send on the down low, addressed exactly as you are shown in the form letter.

ALSO...some people say they don't, but my son told me they did when he was in bc. I'm talking about the RDC's reading everything we post on this website. Remember it IS a public website, so don't "give away" who your loved one is, use your last name in your screen name (if it's the same name), use your SR's name etc...They will pay for this also!

Holy moly I cannot imagine a singing card opening up!

Parents and loved ones need to understand that once their loved one leaves for bootcamp they are an ADULT!  IT is up to the recuit to call them, or send them any information.
