Hello everyone, I have been away from the site for several months now and I'm glad to be back now. This is my first day back and I already have tons of questions, lol. My son will be leaving next month for Great Lakes and I was wondering, if they arrive there on a Wednesday is that considered their Processing week or will they start on the following week. I am trying to plan ahead for PIR and know that bootcamp is eight weeks plus processing week. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Dear Mari,
The first week everything gets processed. Including an extra medical and dental examine.
Please don't hestitate to write.
Take care ,
Barbara
Barbara do you know if they get a dental cleaning. Since my son leaves in two weeks I was thinking of making an appointment for him for a check up and cleaning.
I think the number of days it takes to process can vary but my son just left last week - arrived at RTC around 2:30am Friday (01/16) and according to the letter I received home yesterday he was scheduled to start Day 1 Week 1 on Tues 01/20. Not sure if that helps at all!
Thank you Barbara and Jessie for your helpful response. I am getting way ahead of myself and trying to figure out around what time PIR would be. I'm thinking then if he arrives there towards the end of the week then he would be in processing for a few more days.
Hi Mari - welcome back!!

I found this great article that talks about each week and what they do:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recruit_Training_Command

It says that PWeek is about 5 days or so. Hope this helps

Blessings,
Renee
Thank you Renee, sorry it took so long for me to respond, I just checked now and realized that I had three responses to my question, lol. I will definitely check this link for the week to week activites.
Hi. Im not a navy mom. Im a navy wife. But I found this website and I realized alot of the moms have the same questions that I have. Mari, my husband left the same date your son did for Great Lakes. I was just wondering if you've heard from your son yet? I havent gotten a phone call or a letter or anything yet. Im so worried and I cry every night not knowing what to do with myself. Please let me know.
I concur with the comments below. However, if your son is or may be in a "900 Division", his P-week could stretch into two (2) weeks long. When my son arrived at BC, on 12/10/2008, he spent 2 weeks "in processing", waiting for his Division to fill up. However, fortunately it did not prolong nor delay his PIR (Grad date). Just be prepared if his "schedule" is a little different from someone elses---anything is possible! But, once they get throught P-week, they begin their training and the time begins to roll.
My husband is in division 919. Does that mean it would be 2 weeks before i hear from him?
No, my son's Division just was not full the first week of processing, so they had to wait until more recruits arrived that would be placed in a '900' Division. That's the only reason they had to wait. Keep in mind this was all happening right before Christmas---probably not a time when alot of folks want to start Boot Camp training. However, good news is, my son, Jon Michael, graduated last Friday, 02/09/2009! He is now waiting for his orders for A-school (in San Antonio). He is going to the MA (Master-at-Arms) school. The further they get in their training, the more likely you are to hear from him--up to the last couple of weeks, when they are really busy with training, classes, etc. Then the communication may slow down a little, until after they complete Battle Stations---then they get about an hour phone call. So, hang in there, it's going to get better soon----the time really does begin to go quickly after the 2nd and 3rd weeks!
My understanding is the weeks run as Week 1-Day 1 (which would be Monday), Day 5 (Friday); Week 2-Day 3 (Wednesday). During my son's training I tried to keep up with "what" he was doing each week, but it was hard. His Division started a week later than usual and it seems their training schedule did not always align with the website's schedule--maybe that happens when they are delayed in starting. But, it did not effect his Graduation date, his Division still graduated on time. So, all was cool. The Navy Boot Camp website will give you a break down of what each week of training consists of.
