life here has been pretty hectic - I'm looking forward to a break! I am going to see Aaron in OR - spend Sat and Sun with him and then I'm going camping on the beach for a week! back to see Aaron on the weekend and then head home. I'm birnging my youngest son and a friendof his butnot my husband. My husband Bob has been out of work for a year now, he is working a temp job for the summer so he can't go, but a girlfriend from CA is going to meet me - now I just need to figure out how to put up a tent....lol
We moved my parents into an assisted living place a couple of weeks, now trying to pack their house and clean it out.... what a mess..... I didn't realize how bad my mom was getting. I guess I was in denial. she is only 68 and my dad is 72. My Mom's Memory is shot, 2 yrs ago she tested in the 95% for her age, now she is testing in the 5'th % and my Dad has parkinsons, and its effecting his cognitive the worse. I am finding candy hidden all over the house... and stuff that I have no idea what to do with .... I think she saved every empy box/bottle she used....
we finally got her to realize that their dog was too big for them, they had a 70 lb border collie which has pulled Mom down a few times. I found a good home for him on Thurs. Today mom got herself a Minature poodle. sigh. Thank goodness for my sister, she lives 200 miles away, but she is taking over the finances.... I got the medical..... she has been coming over a lot to help clean out the house.
Hopefully it will calm down after we get the house done!
oh Glad you had a wonderful visit Terry! I'm going to see my Aaron end of next week!!
He just had his Midterms - did pretty good!
Gail, the halfway bags are something the Family Readiness Group (FRG) for the Miami came up with. It's an 8 1/2 x 11 padded envelope stuffed with as much as you can get in it. Space being at a premium on a sub and no regular mail from the mainland means the halfway bags (halfway through their time out) are very welcome. For calendar squares, we speak for specific dates and make an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet with the date and something personal or something for all then these are hung up each day.
I like the pillowcase idea. See if your son's boat has a Family Readiness Group and that will help you get involved. Your son may have to put your name in for it. I love even the short emails - I did get a couple while Scott was out last time.
I saw the news story tonight on the skiing with warm weather clothes on..amazing! And I keep seeing the reports on the fires. I hope the fires stay away or are handled quickly.
Gail M, that's neat that your son got to see a little of Japan and meet up with a friend. Mt. Fuji must have been quite an experience. I did not receive a call, text or email so my son must be pretty busy. I've been busy with single sailor halfway bags and calendar squares so I have the satisfaction of knowing he will be thinking of us when he sees my creations.
Tina, what part of the country are you in? It's a bummer going from cool to hot in a short time. We had a cool spring in lower Michigan but we're having 80's now and have had some 90's. It feels so good to me this year. We're surrounded by trees and enjoy breezy days.
Hang in there Gail....and everyone else....I'll be coming to you all for advice in a few years!
