The ombudsman can inform families of the comings and goings of the boat your sailor serves on and they can provide other pertinent information. Your sailor needs to set you up with the ombudsman for his/her boat, but even without them putting you on the list you might be able to get some information. I've never contacted the Ombudsman but it's good to know who that person is just in case you ever need them. Here's some info I found on N4M's:

I see alot of people trying to find the ombudsman for their son or daughter's command.  Go to www.ffsp.navy.mil, and you'll see a link in the center of the page to Contact Your Ombudsman.  You can check by region, then command and send a message.  You should hear back from the ombudsman within 24 - 48 hours.  I hope this helps!

Charlotte and Gail, I'm glad I'm not the only mom getting stuck with a mess each time my sailor heads back to the Navy! We love them anyway, don't we? :-) Maybe they are just leaving us reminders of their presence that last awhile because they know how much we miss them.

So good to hear all your comments as our sailors move on. Hawaii is such a cool place to be, Gail! Scott gives me a short heads up when they head out to sea, although nothing as specific as the exact day. He'll say "we're leaving soon" He's been out for two very short trips - 4-5 days each.

Charlotte - Enjoy the rest of the visit!   Aaron told me that he'd be home in about 2 weeks.  he is taking about 10 days to drive across country, spending a day with hi Grandma and a few days with his roommates family in WI and various stops elsewhere along the way home.... I want him here sooner!!! :) lol

Terry, Hang in there. No matter the job each of our sailors must do, we are in this together. I hope we continue to hear from you. You are a part of us!

Terry i hope that you will not go away on us! I created this group in hopes that the friendships we made over the past few yrs continues on no matter where our sailors end up. I Have apprieciated the support and insight you all have given and i hope we can continue supporting and sharing our sailors journey as they all go on their seperate ways.

Couldn't sleep, my son just called and he is an official "Nuke", just passed his boards. Graduation is April 29th and I have my plane ticket. He asked me to drive home to California with him. After a month visit he leaves from here to Everett, WA to the USS Nimitz. Yeah, west coast, happy momma doing the happy dance.
