Charlotte, I don't think they have a graduation ceremony. They are told they've finished and they get their orders for their next duty station. At least that's what my son indicated when he finished. Your sailor may at least get a decent amount of leave before heading out. I don't mean to be so dumb, but is the USS Enterprise a sub?

Charlotte - that sounds like great news for you guys!   What a nice long visit - and not too far away at least.

Gail - frustrating for him to not be able to leave when expected.... but at least he still gets to come home for a bit!

A  Jeep sounds great for HI!

I'm getting a reminder of what it is like with no contact - no cell phones at NSI for 2 weeks!  its going to be a tough adjustment when he finally gets to sea...

Son's furlough is over and he's on his way to a base on the east coast for sub duty. Of course, I do not know how soon his first trip will start. Hopefully he will have time to get acclimated to the base and surroundings before taking off. Hated to see him go this time, knowing it could be a LONG time before we see him again. Some hard days are ahead for me, especially the long periods of no communication. I am going to miss him so much! This website helps fill the gap. Thanks, Ladies!

Aaron made it to Newport RI  - he will be there til Mid April and then we will get to see him as he passes through to Oregon :)

Oh good Casey - glad it went well for him!

Casey, Good luck with school once you get settled. And good luck with your response (if any) to the Commander. I definitely think you're on to something in your next to last paragraph that would/could appeal to the higher ups - that the guys are frustrated because of all the uncertainty. I like your point that this program should be running like a well oiled machine by now and that good organization would lead to greater respect for the program. You are very good with words and your passion reminds me of myself at a much younger age :-) I've always been willing to fight for a good cause, too.

Casey,  There is more I wanted to say, but I can't seem to get my thoughts down onto the keyboard....lol  so hugs sent your way - know that we are here for you.
Comment by Carol Aileen on January 17, 2011 at 3:18pm

Casey - yes you can vent here anytime! I agree with what both Charlotte and Lorraine said.  I can see how you can be so frustrated.  I have wondered about some of the disorganization myself, and have been trying to understand how it happens.

I hope that it went very well today for Ryan, please keep us updated!
