I'm just back from helping Lanie and Kale move out to Maine with Scott. I rode back with her parents who took a full truck and trailer load of things for her. It was great to see Scott and give him a bunch of hugs but hard to leave them all behind. Lanie had a good job at Post so this is quite an adjustment for her. I think they'll be fine. She has already been out to the playgrounds with Kale and they are finding lots of other kids since they're in a military housing community. It's a beautiful New England town. Another wife brought cookies over as we were unloading the truck Friday night. Lanie just needs to find a couple girlfriends to help her through the days Scott is on duty.
Gail, nice picture of Eric and Lauren. Terry, what a sweet little girl. My profile picture is from the wedding. The wedding took place at midnight New Year's eve so that the "I do's" were said on January 1 (their anniversary date). Kale was a happy little guy and so well behaved for the late night event. Everything went smoothly without much pre-planning and no rehearsal :-) My daughter and her hubby had decorated their deck with a large tree branch with lights all over it - kind of like a canopy for the backdrop. The minister showed up just before midnight. Lanie braved the cold in her sleeveless dress on the deck, Scott was luckier because he had his Blues on. We had cake after the ceremony and enjoyed a great time with immediate family from both sides. Thanks to my daughter hosting it at her beautiful home, we had one of the best home weddings a person could hope for. Lanie's beautiful dress cost only $150 by mail order. Looks like Scott found housing and Lanie and Kale are moving out the first weekend in April. I'll miss seeing DIL and Grandson, but happy they will all be together. In a week, we'll know the effect of the sequester on continued work on the sub. Hoping the work continues so they don't have to move right away. Grandson is visiting me this week - an overnight here for the first time without Mom. He's been wanting to come and I have plenty of activities to keep us busy so he doesn't get bored. Looking forward to it! I'll post a couple more pictures.
Terry, I hope you get to have your visit in June before changes to Aaron's schedule. I'm hearing things about the Miami repairs and wondering if the sequester will affect that project. The Miami has been in dry dock for a year and probably repairs would be completed this year if it hadn't been for the fire set by the civilian worker last May. If they don't proceed with the work, it will definitely affect the sailor and his new bride's life.
Scott got married January 1 and my profile pic is the new family! I gained a grandson and he is a sweetie (4 years old). My DIL is sweet too! Lanie wasn't able to move out to Maine right away but looks like she might be going the end of March as they may have housing by then. Winter has been winter this year and now we're looking forward to spring. There is snow on the ground but none in the forecast for a week so I think it will break the cycle here in Michigan. I'm still enjoying retirement and looking forward to possibly helping my DIL and Grandson move (so then I'll get to see Scott too!). Hope you are all well.
wow I haven't checked in a bit - lots of good news and wonderful photos! Thank you for sharing! Terry, what a precious photo of Aaron and Charlotte!
Terry, that video is definitely a tearjerker. I'm so happy for them and wish them all the best.
The wedding date will be 1/1/13. I mentioned to the kids that Dec 31 could mean paying more taxes since they had a lot of income this year (Scott had a huge bonus for re-signing & Lanie has a very good job at Post). They found a minister willing to do a small family wedding at midnight so they will be official on 1/1. Thirteen is Scott's "lucky" number so that's a nice omen also. We're looking forward to a happy celebration.
Charlotte, that is great news they are all home safe! I hope you all can get together soon.
I have some happy news. Scott is getting married at midnight New Year's. My future DIL lives here in Michigan, about an hour away. We're planning an outdoor wedding (yes, outdoor) for just immediate family. Then I'm sending them off to a B&B for two nights as a wedding present. She is not moving for a few months due to housing issues but they are happy which is all that matters.
Carol, it sure isn't easy losing a parent. I've been through it three times since 2007. I hope all goes well on Veteran's Day as you honor your father's wishes.
Gail, Scott has a girlfriend now so I'm probably not welcome either at anymore homecomings. Fortunately, I got one in before he got serious. He discouraged me from visiting this summer because he works so many hours/days. He tries to have time to talk to his GF daily and that's all he has time for. It hurt at first but I reminded myself he is an adult and if he was married in a "normal" (non-Navy) life, he would be spending more time with her than me :-) Hopefully once you get to know Lauren, you will find her to be a resource for some of your son's activities. Scott's GF fills me in from time to time and I do enjoy her company (she lives an hour from us).
