I remember about eight years ago my son, his buddy and I were able to tour the Stennis while it was pulling into the Port of Seattle for Seafair (our local summer celebration).  It was a great day and I still feel honored to have been able to be aboard...  every crew member we met on our tour told my son and his buddy... 'Knowledge is Power'!  They really wanted to impress in the youth that the more you studied the more you knew the better choices they would have in the future.  My son still talks about that day and that line...

marine navy mom... you got it...  and then there are lots of qualifications that they have to earn within each rating...  they can become final checkers in their rates... they can train for other rates...  the more they learn the more valuable they become!!

Susan-that's exactly how i put it to my son at PIR....i was so confused by that Intermediate and Organizational so i said, "it's inside or outside"....he smiled so big at me and said "yeah mom that will work".
