Thank you Josh's mom. How nice of you. I hope your day was great as well!
Joshmom: hope your son recovers quickly! Mine actually thanked me for having his taken out when he was 18. He was so glad he didn't have to go through it in BC.
Yes, we love San Diego! We live in Phoenix, so have tried to vacation in SD almost every summer. It's like a 'home away form home' for my son. It's also close, so hoping we get to see him frequently. Although, it sounds like his ship is getting ready to deploy. I am excited for him to see the world, too!
candirad - I had to laugh about the wisdom teeth too. He was told in bootcamp that they were going to take them out, told again in A school, then in C school....almost 2 1/2 years later they finally did. I told him they'd catch up to him sooner or later! LOL
Joshmom: That is funny about the wisdom teeth. They lined those recruits up at Boot Camp and whoever had them got them out then and there. Apparently it was two fold: No problems later on and also training for the Navy Dental Assistants. Gotta love that preventive dentistry ...
Andrewsmom: San Diego is gorgeous! I live in Central California and my oldest son was in the Marines and now lives in San Diego and works as a civilian on the base. It is a great place to be! That is interesting that C-School was delayed though ...
Andrewsmom - Sounds like your son is meeting "the needs of the Navy"! I hope he likes his ship and job...glad he got San Diego. I've never been to Cali but I hear SD is really nice.
I miss not getting to see my son very much but if he had to do it all over again I would still encourage him to go overseas. He's so happy and he calls me almost every week so that makes it much easier to deal with. I got a call this morning....woke me up at 4:30...he wanted to let me know everything went well and he was feeling fine (he had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled) He laughed and said it wasn't so bad after all...he's on SIQ for 3 days then there's the weekend and then he gets LLD for 5 days. He sounded great and very relieved...he was not happy about having to get them pulled...especially since it was just "preventive dentistry"
Have a Great Day Everyone!
My son left yesterday to report directly to his ship. Apparently, he is needed on the ship now. His orders indicate he will attend C-school in Oct. This is the first we've heard of this arrangement, but it may be more common. His C school is in San Diego. The location depends on what type of aircraft or equipment they will be working on.
Joshmom, my son wanted calibrations, but the guy in front of him picked that posting. He was a little disappointed. He's on an LHA, based in San Diego. Any ship in San Diego was his 2nd choice!
candirad - Not all AT's go to C school but if your son is ATI he probably will, at least I think most ATI's do. He won't find out (if and where) he will go to C school until he gets his orders around the end of his A school. C schools are located all over, depends on what he would specialize in. My son is a Cal-Tech, so his C school was at an Air Force Base in Biloxi which has the only school for calibrations. His orders were for C school then 3 years sea duty in Japan. Hope this helps somewhat!
Thanks for the info joshmom and Andrewsmom. After A-School, where is C-School?
